Hhhm can see that the Rebel is brighter than the P4's but not too much of a difference for me to go buying one yet

Newbie here, but getting ready to buy one or another of the L2Ds (for bike helmet), w/ a spare L1D body (for backpacking), and a AAA for my wife's keychain. Will use NiMH

I may have an untrained eye, but to me the beamshots suggest that the spill is better on the Cree -- or maybe "better" should be in some sort of scare quotes. With NiMH, the foreground of the beamshots here is much more detailed with the Cree than with the R100. (Maybe the spill won't matter so much for biking?) Since both now ship with OP reflectors, these photos suggest that the big differences will be tint, together with differences between spot (slight advantage to the Rebel) and spill (slight advantage to the Cree).

I just got my P2D Rebel yesterday and its great..... But there is one thing that makes it superb.... The tint of the Rebel LED is excellent!!! I can easily identify colours as they are in their natural state - like sunlight! SOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!

The rebel shots you've taken definitely look warmer and more natural, like incan lighting. Definitely an upgrade in my book. Thanks for the shots.

Hmm, to me, the P4 shots actually look brighter than the Rebel 100 shots. The P4 beamshots look to have a equal or slightly brighter hotspot, but brighter spill (the upper and side areas of the pics look brighter on the P4s, so more light).

If the Head isn`t as tight as possible (General Mode), then it flashed terrible if you change modes...
Here I made it with my mobile phone....:

Flashed the light for a split second, if the Head ar tight to General Mode, and the button is traveling up and down or when you first turn it on to low?

Anyone else notice this "Flash" on P3D Rebel 100?

I agree, In the old days when i use incan, as the beam weakens the beams becomes noticably more yellow or warmer. When the output is whiter, i know i using a full battery and the beam is more intense. I have over time develop the perception, that white is bright and yellow is dimmer.

So when i started collecting LED lights, i wanted a really white beam, perhaps because it was my belief, it gives me more light. I tend to see alot of people going for whiter LED, personally i cannot see any real use benefit. After collecting a few LED lights, I notice that I much prefer the tint on my Surefire A2, than the other LED lights, such as the SL PP Lux, as the objects that i illuminate such as trees show more depth and colour variation. Using the LED, i see a dull tree and i cannot really differentiate the leaves from the branches. I think i will like the Rebel having a more warmer tint if it provides better colour rendition in outdoor use.

It looks like the RB100's are on par with the Q2 versions of these lights. Makes me want to see more Q5 pics of these lights.

I've got the L1T2.0, the white spot is pretty good for color. Oddly the spill seems more like the usual LED bluishness. I read somewhere that the light is different at different angles coming off the rebel emitter. Seems like it. Could be just the light density. Have to agree, the jovial glow coming from my Brinkmann Maxfire blows the Fenix away, but it has a much bigger reflector and only runs for about 40 minutes, dimming rapidly. The Surefire A2 is a pretty good design.

Given these beamshots, am I correct in inferring that the Creeversion of the L2D or L1D (OP) might be a better choice than the new Rebel100 for primary use as a bike helmet light (paired with a Dinotte 200L on the frame)? I've never heard anyone claim that tint mattered in a bike light; meanwhile the Cree's cheaper, is reported to have the same throw as the Rebel, and seems to offer more detail outside the hotspot.

I'd be grateful to be corrected in this before I order.

The cree does appear to have a bit more spill. I read that the reflectors are different between the cree and the rebels. Hard to say though, check out the beamshots in this thread:
