just got a FF3 i would like to mod with a seoul emitter. i assume to open it up i need to remove the 2 tiny (allen head?) screws in the flupic. does home depot stock them, anyone know exactly what size it is? Does the mcr18 reflector fit in the ff3? i know about the seoul issues(isolating and raising), but any other FF3 specific hints much appreciated.:)

Re: Firefly 3 seoul mod questions HELP PLEASE!

Hello?? can i even build a new light engine?

Re: Firefly 3 seoul mod questions HELP PLEASE!

It is not impossible to upgrade using a seoul led. You first have to check how the reflector works with the seoul. You might need to modify the reflector first. If you don't care about the led, you desolder the old led and pry it off. Clean off all epoxy and you need to shim up the seoul 0.03" and ISOLATE the slug of the seoul.

Goldserve, are you mounting the SSC P4 on boards? Like if I send you one of your old Flupic sammies, you can upgrade it to SSC???? Or will you build new ones?

Done! a terrific upgrade
thanks for the advice and for your ingenious Flupic!!

What??? No beamshots?? Did you have to modify the reflector much? What did you use to give it the extra 0.03"? =D

I haven't got any Seouls to play with yet. If anyone got any crappy ones and is willing to donate some, I'll be happy to experiment =D

I'd stand in line to go this route. I won't do this myself however.

Did the light change for the better? He He He.

New life for the FF3!

the stock light has a purple/lavender tint while the seoul from photonfanatic is beautiful. btw the FF3 i modded was dimmer and more purple than the one pictured. I AA epoxyed a copper shim from the shoppe on the can. I don't think its really needed for the FF3, probably wont use one for the other light. I removed a little bit of the reflector with my dremel, but its a less than ideal method and Im still not clear on if the reflector is removable. Anyone speak up on that? I think it could be focused better, but im not going to mess with it until i know what the deal is with removing the reflector. i feel lucky to have found these lights and be able to upgrade them like this. only thing that will make them more perfect will be goldserve upgrading the flupic to ver 2.2:)
thanks goldserve and CPF!

I would love to upgrade your light to newer versions but it costs way too much for you to ship the module to canada and have me ship it back to you all safe and intact.

Better bet is to request a custom firmware and buy a new board from me for $20 + $5 programming and have it send it to you. I'd only advise this route if you are comfortable with modding, which definitely you are =D
