I recently got a Surefire G2 Nitrolon from Batt Junct. I didn't expect it to be this good for an inexpensive light from Surefire. The G2 is made of some unbreakable- very lightweight material ( Nylon?). THe output is only listed as 65 lumens, but they underrate their lights, and it is as strong as any other (2) 123 cell incan. What I like most though , is how smooth the tailcap operates. It's a momentary push on, and twist to stay on light. Both operate very smoothly, and without great effort. While I have a preference for LED lights, I'm more and more carrying this light weight light with me to work.

Value for the money...Just Awesome!

I'm not as far along in my Surefire collecting as others, but I still like using my Desert Tan G2 more than my L4/E1L-McR-Seoul/E1e.

My G2 uses two AW 3.7v RCR123 protected cells, and either a Lumens Factory HO-9 incan bulb, or a Dealxtreme Cree LED module. I also picked up a $2.00 holster for it from Dealxtreme that fits perfectly.

Thanks for the holster suggestion...I have several models from DX, but not that one...yet. DIdn't think about different drop in modules....

I like the G2 myself, simply because it feels so nice in the hand regardless of temperature..

Well, unless you leave the black one out in the sun or something.. that could get a little warm ;)

Yep the G2 is a great buy. Good review. Has anyone here used it with 17670 lithium ions? I'm thinking it would go great with the multi mode DX Cree dropin.

Sweet news there, LO!

I just got a Brinkmann Maxfire LX from Target a few hours ago (basically the same thing as a G2, more or less), and I was surprised at how LOW the output seemed  . I've come to the conclusion that a "tactical" or "high-output xenon" light needs at least 3xCR123A (or 2xLi-Ion, whatever), and possibly a high-output lamp. I much prefer my TL-3 with 1499 for a blast of battery-sucking incan output.

Of course, it's still a very useful beam and a darn sight brighter than a stock Minimag... most definitely.

The G2 was my first SF purchase; They reel you in for 36 bucks, you're hooked and then start purchasing the more expensive models. :)

Must admit, that does seem odd. My Maxfire's output = No noticeable difference from my Surefire C2 or G2.

Perhaps he means the Maxfire (=G2) to him is dim in general compared to other brighter incan lights. I would have to agree, since the standard P60 lamp really isn't anything special, although it has good runtime for an incan its size.

The Maxfire/G2 really shines with bright alternative lamps (P61/P90/HO-9/Cree LED).

I think that the Maxfire LX is greatly improved by putting a P60 lamp module in place of the stock reflector and lamp. The main difference is throw.

But the most impressive 2-cell incandescent I've seen so far is the Pelican M6.

I just tried a DX cree drop in and one that I made from the separate parts ( reflector, board and led). My own drop in is slightly brighter than the DX one..but both are nice. They only draw around 450 ma with primaries..a bit over 500 with a 3.7 li-ion. I don't know why they aren't pulling more amps- but the drop ins are decent for the price.
