Flap Sander on E2e??

Has anyone tried using a flap sander on an E2e body to "bore" it out so that an 18650 cell will fit? I am thinking of trying this but am curious if anyone has tried this with any success. I know it is nowhere near as good as having the body machined. However, I have not found anyone willing and able to do this.
 
The problem with boring e series bodies to accept 18*** cells is it leaves the threaded (bezel end) portion of the tube too thin. It undermines the threads I guess you could say. This can only be worked around by using a threaded collar between the tube and bezel like Tranquility Base did a while ago ( I'm pretty sure it was TB) or getting a Leef E head/C tail body so the cell can be loaded from the tailcap side.

That's my understanding at least. So I'm not sure about he flap sander but I wouldn't even try boring an E series tube unless you won't miss it when it's gone.
 
My old E2E fits 17670 just fine.In order to fit 18650 you would have to take off about .060 from the ID.It would be way to thin.
 
Thanks for all the advice guys. I didn't realize that it would leave the body so thin. I guess it is a good thing I asked first and saved myself the grief. As was stated I can fit 17670 cells in the E2e bodies but I was just trying to be extra greedy and get the extended runtime.

its understandable if your collection used mainly 18650s, saves the need for a spacer to charge 17670s:D

I'm an avid 17670 user, no 18650s in my shack:grin2:
 
I don't mean to muddy the collective wisdom here, but I've never seen anyone attempt to bore a E2e body for an 18650. Every time someone asks about this, the idea immediately gets shot down with the same rationale. I have no idea if the threads (or walls of the tube) of an E2e body are wide enough. Can I assume someone actually tried this at some point? Because, it is possible to build a one piece E-series body for 18mm cells. FM's 18500 body works fine with every E-series compatible head I've tried, and while the length is obviously not enough for an 18650, the width is not a problem for any of the cells I have. Recently, FM even gauged interest for an 18650 run.
 
A protected 18650 is probably larger in diameter than the widest part of the E2e body in itself. If not it's pretty close.
 
Before destroying a part most people will make a measurement or 2.

After that there's no need to try unless you just hate your E series battery tube and like Aluminum flakes.

My old "1999" E2E is .747 in Diameter at the body,.800 at the threads.My 18650 that i use are .714 in diameter unprotected.Thats leaves you .033 to play with divide by two and you get a wall thickness of.016! Thats how thick your fingernail is.I wouldn't carry it.
 
Definitely stick with 17670's for the E-series lights. That's already a whole lot of power in a very small light. :)
