I think flashaholic and CPFer are used inerchangaible here on the board. IN the "outside world" I refer to myself as a flashaholic (Always explaining that is FLASHlight not...well you know) because CPFer is just to hard to explain.

I think it would be fun to come up with some sort of "PC" title, much like a janitor might be called a sanitation engineer, just for fun. Also, I've considered calling myself a torchaholic but that (think arson) sounds even worse than flashaholic.

I don't believe I've ever used the terms "flashaholic" or "CPF'er" in the real world. I use them only in the digital world. I have referred people to both my own website and Candlepower Forums in both realms, but did not mention any of the "pet names" (for lack of a better term) we've given ourselves here.

"Flashaholic" sounds a bit like "alcoholic". What is flashahol anyway? Is it a long polymer molecule, or a loose hexagonal sugar chain like ethanol? And nobody "on the outside" would even have a clue what a "CPF'er" is until they actually went online and joined CPF.

I think I read somwhere that flashahol is the stuff that allows photons to be liberated from batteries.

OK since the topic has come up..I never really liked the term 'flashaholic'. When I clicked onto the board one fine day and saw that , under my name, I was identified as one, I was somewhat taken aback, chagrined..
Yes, it sounds like 'alcoholic', and, well, that's serious stuff...

In this country a Portaloo is a mobile temporary toliet you see at open-air music events and such like.

I have always preferred "Torch Addict" to describe my illumination-tool affliction.

"Illuminating responses". Away from the board, I somwhat grandiosely refer to myself as "a member of an online group that evaluates and reviews high-tech portable lights used by the police and military". I often go on to say that "several of our members are cutting edge innovators in their own right and many of the top manufacturers and dealers in the field read our reviews, solicit our opinions, and have become members of our group."

Even though there is considerable truth to these statements, their obvious purpose is to inflate myself in the eyes of the doubters and cynics, the ones who consider Maglite to be the pinnacle of technological evolution in its field. (NOTE: I am NOT taking a swipe at Maglite, a manufacturer I have always respected for the solid excellence and durability of their products).

I guess this is a rather silly thread that I started, but it stemmed from an honest curiosity about our group.

Jeff, you're right; I had the afternoon off!

I definately think that we we should explore this further. Either do some (semi) serious research into the alleged SIX MILLION words in the english language - and perhaps resurrect some archane terminology... or just put our heads together and work on creating a series of new terms - with different subtilties of meanings etc. It would certainly cost less than creating new flashlights!
