Flashlight for a Girl?

On a real tight budget yep the Dorcey is a solid choice. If it were me id build her a space needle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif that way she could use it for self deffence. If she didnt blind the poor sap that tried to mug her she could club him to death with it.

lol somebody find me a girlfriend and i'll get her an Arc AA and a space needle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

My lady has an Arc AAA on her keychain, an an E2E in the purse. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

She knew that I carried the Arc AAA everywhere and wouldn't be without one, so when I gave her mine at a particularly significant time, it meant something to her. When she carries it, she remembers the pleasant occasion of it's gifting.

The time taken to make the gift mean something is priceless-- and free to you. Find out her favorite color like Flashlight_Widow suggested. Maybe two different lights in that same color. Present it nicely and ready to go. Make a little card to go with it, hand write a "To:/From:" tag for it, etc. Presentation and consideration goes a long way to show that you value the recipient because you took the time.

Best of luck! Some of the best gifts given and received have had the least cash value.

Too bad they don't make chocolate flashlights.....you'd be in like Flynn kid! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously, check out the discount lights on the Peak LED site. They have something very similar to an Arc AAA that they call their proto light for $14.95. I just ordered 3 for gifts.

Let us know how you "make out" ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you mean like one of those flat rectangular LED key chain lites? They are pretty cool. I got one recently at my local grocery store just because it was there. I was not disappointed. It puts out a pretty good amount of light that is white and brite. However, with that being said, beware of short run times.

I am guessing this is not going to be her "one light does it all" type gift. If that is the case, and you are just trying to get her a little token of affection, the Garrity will be fine. From what I remember, they, too, come in different colors. So maybe you could look into the favorite or matching color idea Flashlight Widow had.

In fact, probably for just right around $10 bucks, you should be able to get BOTH the Dorcy AAA and the Garrity. That would be a NEAT idea! A key ring lite and a small pocket or purse or car light!

The Dorcy AAA is a great light for a girl. I gave one to my Mom on a home made neck lanyard before she went on a trip in her camper. When she got back she went on and on about how handy the light was. It is cute and comes in bright colors. Easy to carry in a purse or whatever. And of course the brightness/runtime/size are great.

Girls also tend to like brightly colored MiniMags, but those are not the best flashlights unless modified.

Good one Bart!

Welcome to CPF zippo, yellow1, PAtwood, and why dontcha stay awhile!

GarageBoy, the Dorcy is perfect for your purposes. Target only sells the silver colored one, dunno if your lady would like bright colors (red, blue, gold) or cool and mod like the silver. Walmart has the colors (I object to Walmart on principle, but they have some good stuff). So the color is your call. I'm not much impressed by any of the other lights at Target, except the cool little motion sensitive leds you screw into your bike tires.

good luck,
daloosh

Just fair warning, if you get her a Dorcy she might want one to match every outfit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On a more serious note I've found the Photon Microlights (I like the II) to be very useful, and much smaller to carry. They are a little more $ than the Dorcy, but still only run about $11.

I showed my sister several small lights, said which one would you like.

She glommed on to a SL Keymate in silver like white on rice!

It is on her keys, and she raves about it from time to time.

I got it at Bass Pro Shop.

Garage Boy ... I have an unused Inova Microlight (clear housing, white LED) lying around that I could sponsor for the great cause if you do not mind that there is no packaging left ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
PM me if interested , shipping would also be free.

If you would consider something a bit on the bigger side (non EDC) I can also sponsor this one:

A LEdLenser look-alike running on 2xAA regulated with 6x5mm LED. But it is not small and I threw away the box, too.

Tell me is interested by either one or both /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

IMHO Dorcy AAA is an excellent light for the money. If its going to be carried in a purse, you can make a surprisingly nifty little lense cap with a note card and some duct tape.

What a nice guy you are Bernard! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK, GarageBoy, here's an idea to file away for future reference. Maybe this is the girl to give this to or maybe it will be the next one, just don't overuse it or the word will get around. The best gift I have ever heard of for a young lady was one that my stepson came up with. He bought his little sweetheart a really cute puppy dog hand puppet which he proceeded to stuff with her favorite candy. Flabbergastingly brilliant with spectacular results! I sure wish I had been that savvy at his age. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Of course she broke up with him a week or two later.....

The very first light I gave my wife (back when...) was a Mag Solitaire. (Hey! It was top of the line 14 yrs ago!) She still carries it in her keychain (properly modded to use LED). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just gave her a black body CMG/Gerber Infinity for her purse (sale at batterystation).I bought her an ArcAA recently too (still waiting for it, though).

You know what? I think she's slowly becoming a flashaholic too!! Wohoooo!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bart, you hit a spot there i think! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Bernhard... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif You are a great man indeed! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Garageboy... GO get 'er tiger! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif Geez, wish i was back at 15 years old again....
