I have looked over the many wonderful flashlights you guys are building and am going to start on a few projects of my own going off several threads i've found but one thing I havent seen any of but am sure someone here has did it is use it on a dirtbike using the dirtbikes 12v current. I know I can just get a regular dirtbike bulb and it will be brighter for cheaper but I want to make a helmet light that plugs into the bike and uses its power so I don't have to drain batteries everytime I ride. Any recommendations on the best bet on building one would be and the best light to use as a platform for it?

I'm making my own right now...really simple that you could get some cables and tie into the bike's power. Just think about getting off the bike and having a cable attached might be kind of annoying.

I'd consider something like the lights here www.bikeled.org with an extension cable like this Traitech Connector

Exciting for me, I have been wanting to see a thread like this. First question is, does your bike have electric start?

I have one bike with and one without electric start but both run batteries and have their juice converted to d/c. Theres gotta be some kind of small light such as a maglite but of course not a maglite that uses 12v dc and maybe like a 50w or 100w bulb right?

That is good you are already dealing with DC. Most bikes I have seen without a stator rewind can only handle about 35W bulb and still keep the ignition and everything working right.

My interest was in doing this with led, probably an ssc p7. HID is of course another option, as you probably already know, trailtech is one company that makes an HID helmet light.

I haven't seen anything here specifically for a motorcycle mount, but plenty of super bright bike lights that would suffice.

Something like this could be modified as either a bike mount or helmet light. Mounted to the bike, especially to an aluminum frame part would be ideal as it would help draw heat away from the unit.

If you wanted to stay with incandescent it would be simple to use any mr16 type bulb and housing, a decent cable and gland and mount it where you wanted.

I am thinking a good place to start will be finding out what your charging voltages are on your bike, and how many watts your stator is. Since you do have a battery, unlike my bike, you could exceed the wattage of your stator for a short time, but it wouldn't take long to run your battery down.

Have a look at what some of the other member have acclompished and see what interests you.

And have a look around the automotive forum and electronics as well to get some ideas for 12v circuits.
