Ok guys, I need some help.

I am looking for an LED light that can be mounted to a dash and has a felxible shaft (18-24") to use a map light. We are looking to put these on our new ladders, but I cant find them anywhere. I know someone has to make them, but I am not having any luck. I knew if anyone would know, you guys would. I am on a time crunch here, so any help is greatly appreciated.

You can email me at [email protected].

Firescooby,
you want a light for the truck cab right?
the only thing i've seen is a light that mounts right into
the lighter socket(easy to install)but, the shaft is about 6"-8". and yes it's uses a led.
i saw this at a local car performace shop.

I saw the LED version of the little lite, and the odd thing was, it wasn't dimmable. I asked about it and they say it really didn't need a dimmer. Do they use these in theatres? Every light in a theatre needs a dimmer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh well, hopefully they will get a dimmer for them soon enough. I have seen LED replacements for the regular little lites, but it was a single 5 mm sized chip, it was ok, but only about 1/5 as bright as the 10w lamps.

Sounds like a good application for my new StalkLight. I have the reflector/heads at a machine shop right now - getting 100 made as the first batch - should receive them around 8th of Oct.

The controller board (the StalkBoard) I have in fab right now and will have boards (lots) in a couple of weeks. The electronics provides dimming control from full bright to nightlight (about 11 steps). The StalkBoard can run from 20V down to 2.7V - the Luxeon will go into direct drive when the input voltage falls below the Luxeon Vf.

Any colour Luxeon could be used in the StalkLight - though most will by white. The reflector is optimised for the HD (lambertian) Luxeon.

Doesn't help you right now - but should in a month or so...

You can catch pics & writeup of the project (as it evolves) at StalkLight

LED lights on stalks are a real good idea, I think. Although not elegant, the Loc-Line seems to hold up better over time with more articulation and less "memory fight" than any other material I have tried; short of a couple things I have experimented with. I expect that we will be seeing more flexible stalk lights comming on the market as time goes by. Shucks, if I'd had any backing, I'd have seen a Luxeon based stalk light brought to market last year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yeah, I know, sounds like sour grapes but don't sour grapes give you whine? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think there are a few Nichia LED based stalk lights on the market now.......

Firescooby,

CompUSA sells a 15 inch LED goose neck light for a lap top computer. It connects to the computer's USB hub and it draws 5 volts. You could cut off the USB connector and add a dropping resister to reduce the vehicles 13.75 volts. You will also need to make a holder for the flexible shaft. I make one of these lights and used epoxy to fasten the shaft to a small box that I use over my Amateur Radio Equipment.
