I can't believe it happened, but I changed the batteries on my L2D Q5, and blew it out!
I still can't believe I inserted the batteries backwards, shame on me!
I bought if off of Ebay, and don't have a receipt for it.

Does anyone know if it can be sent to the Fenix store for service or replacement?
If so, what is the charge, if any?

Thanks, from a humiliated CPFer.

I just bought one of these lights too, mine works fine, but I would like to know where I can send it for service. I got mine from Keenzo before I learned about the Fenix Store. Its a well built light, and I doubt I'll have any troubles until the warranty is up, so I would like to know where the authorized service centers are for these in the USA.

If you are in the US(seems like both of you are), you can contact Fenix Store and see what they can do for you. IIRC they are the official US dealer and place for Fenix in the US.

No kidding, you'll probably be checking polarity on your batteries very closely now that you've fried your light...

I'm not sure if any flashlight company warrantees against reverse polarity or "operator error"...

Aww man :(

I know EXACTLY how you feel because I did this exact thing to my poor L2D quite some months ago.. only 2-3 months after I got the damn thing too! :shakehead

It's easily done with a flashlight that opens at the top and bottom if you are sleepy or so... well I'm really careful now.

Good luck.

I did the same, but on the first day I got mine!!

The newer versions have reverse polarity protection now. Thankfully.

I was lucky, 4sevens helped me out as I had ordered mine from fenix-store.

All I can suggest Aaron is you order a new head, it's cheaper than a new light - as you ordered it from ebay I doubt you can get any repair apart from directly from Fenix themselves. I may be wrong though!

I for one realize just how easily this can happen. So whenever possible, I add dabs of a non-conductive adhesive, like Alumina Adhesive in this case, to the board around the Pos+ contact. It doesn't interfere with proper use but will protect the light in that likely :ohgeez: event should you insert the battery backwards.

Not much help now I know, but there'll be more lights a-comin' in the future. :)

Great idea. I may have to do something like that!

I did suggest placing a plastic ring around the contact to 4sevens, and I think Fenix have done something now to the T1. There are 2 raised solder blobs around the contact which should prevent it from touching the negative end of a cell.

The newer ones do.
Its a pity to hear about a fried L2D.
Only the black L2Ds, not the olive ones. I just found that out by buying an olive L2D :(
They (Fenix store, at least) need to sell off the old stock of olive L2Ds before the new circuit will be available on those.

I had 2 black ones and they both were the "old" type. I didn't mind as the newer ones have had reports of clearly audible hissing on turbo mode.

My iNova X5 has nearly suffered that same fate. I'd almost put an directional arrow on the light.:sssh:

I too am more aware of the battery configuration when they're removed!

That's a good point. It's what I am using to make myself feel better about having the old version :)

Is there a way of visually identifying the new version from the old...is the head different in any way that one could definately know whether it's polarity protected or not?
