I would like to buy either a G2 or 6P to host one of the new Cree drop in modules that are out now and I'm hoping to get some opinions as to which would be better. I know they use the same lamp assembly, but the impression I'm getting from the drop in threads is that the G2 doesn't seem to work as well for this purpose. This would be both my first Surefire and my first Cree. Price is as issue, which is why I've narrowed it down to these two models. I think I prefer the G2 because of price and looks. I'd appreciate any opinions.

Thanks!

The metal body will sink heat away from the LED better than the plastic G2... which will act as an insulator instead...

if you want to keep the price of a G2 with the heat sinking of a 6P.... get a Wolf-Eyes 6 series or G&P or ultrafire 2 cell tactical light instead... this will put you in the $20-40 range. If you are set on Surefire, go with the 6P.

I'm assuming you don't have the LiteMania Cree drop-in yet. I dunno about surefire, as I don't own any currently, but I second using a Wolf-Eyes light. It doesn't have HA (type III) but does have type II. PTS has a pre-order for the cree upgrade and have other sales going on every so often. One stop shop and it should run cheaper than the 6P with upgrade option, since you said cost was an issue. Because I don't own this setup, my recommendation is not as valid, but take it into consideration.

I own the W-E M90 EO-13 700 lumen LA - it's great. My M90 is a D36 and the cree upgrade is only a D26 at the moment so I don't know which specific Wolf Eyes it will fit. I wish they would make a cree or seoul tailcap light though. :)

Do you need to purchase the spring for the D26 Cree XR-E P4 LED drop-in in order to run it in a G2?

So 2 votes for 6P and 1 vote for Other. Thanks for the Wolfeye suggestion. I'll look into it, but I'm wanting a Surefire.

Anyone else?

Thanks!

I've been looking at the 6AX. Looks great for $35 and then another $40 for the drop in. Two of the things I like about the Surefire are the momentary on and the lockout tailcap. The website says the 6AX has "rear tactical button switch". I assume this covers momentary on, but what about lockout? Also, what kind of batteries does it take?

Thanks!

Thank you mdocod and Effulgence for the Wolf Eyes advice. I ended up ordering a 6AX and I'm VERY happy with it. I don't think I could have done better for the money. It's a great light with the current incan bulb and I can't wait to get the Cree drop in for it! I'm planning on buying another one as a gift. Thanks also to Mike at PTS Flashlights for being so helpful.

:thanks:
