Hello all.
I happened to come across this forum while looking for reviews for battery chargers for some batteries I bought off ebay.
I'm going to try and get a La Crosse BC-9009 in a week or so. *edit* After reading about alot of overheating issues with BC-9009 I might just go for the Maha C800S.
Do the BC-700's have heating issues?

Well I'm basically wondering if anyone has used these batteries in the past or anything.
I bought them because they were cheap and I know you get what you pay for, but live and let learn. $14 (shipped) for 19 batteries, had to give it a shot. I don't actually expect them to hold the full 2700mAh, I'm figuring even if they hold 2000-2300 I'd be happy.

These are them

I'll look into getting some eneloops after these, since those seem to be popular here.

I have an 4 bay Energizer Universal Charger (older one CHM4FC), but I'd rather have something I can monitor the batteries with. I don't like having to rely on a single red light to let me know when the batteries are done.

Well nice to know there's a place to get information on batteries, cause having 3 kids I end up using ALOT of them.

WOW! Thanks for all the help.
lmao
Don't get up, I'll find my own way out.

Well, just goes to show

Seems like you're the first one with knowledge of theese batteries. so how are they?

Sorry you had a rough start here.

My experience is that for kids toys use the el'cheapo's end change/charge as needed, discard when capacity/runtime falls below par.
LSD's will die just as well when left to drain to 0V.

For cameras/flashlights and other "high end" gadgets use the good stuf for decent runtime.

My $.02

Heh, I saw your original post, but I didn't comment because I have never heard of or seen those cells before. At least you have a sense of humor!

My geneal experience and knowledge of off brand/unknown cells like that, particularly from ebay, is that they aren't worth the investment. You could probably justify them for uses such as The Dane suggested, but I think really, there are other known brands that would be more practical than some unknown one. Still, it could be worth a try if you don't mind possibly being disappointed.

Welcome to CPF, stick around a while!

Dave

Sorry for no :welcome: the first time around.
:welcome: +1
Folks around here don't have much to say on generic cheapie batteries - no dog in that fight, so to speak. From what I gather, good name-brand cells really end up paying for themselves tho.

Edit: Now, on the other hand, if you had posted about Eneloops, you'd have 10+ flashaholics lining up in a holding pattern to give out helpful advice. :)

the problem with generic no name batteries from unknown distributors is even if they are found to be good, the next batch may not be. anything good usually later on everyone finds out and wants it and either the price goes up, the quality goes down or both so the bargain essentially vanishes fast. I would *guess* chances are these will suffer the problems of many super high capacity nimh AAs..... high self discharge, or the capacity will be a lot less than advertised and may be fragile easily ruined.

I hope your $14 was well spent.:):):)

some dealextreme users that got no-name ni-mh batteries have said the same.

too much variation in capacity between cell, and one even complained and showed a video of one that leaked (was burbling a fluid).

maybe the cheapest with "a brand" is the next best option...

I thought the same thing with some Tenergy LSD AAs, why not spend 1/2 or 1/3 the price and get 70% of the performance, right? I was wrong. After about 1.5 years of non intensive use many of them are now approaching junk and I find myself replacing them with Rayovac Hybrids and Duraloops. But as you said, live and let learn.

... some batteries I bought off ebay
A basic search will reveal that there have been >500 threads just in just the last 12 months commenting on the inadvisability of buying batteries from eBay.

Add that 500 to the many hundreds of other threads commenting on the unreliability and poor quality of generic no-name batteries, and even if you just took a thread at random it would be pretty hard to miss an adverse comment about them.

The OP seems to have been offended by something or other - perhaps by not receiving an instant reply to his unnecessary question; but he has not returned and there appears to be no other reason to keep this thread open. It's closed.
