Gerber Eclipse

Just brought a Gerber Eclipse mini tools, I alreday have a leatherman micra, which I think is wonderful, the size, functionality and quality is very good. My sister also want one of those therefore when I saw the Gerber Eclipse, the size is smaller than the micra and the shape is quite unique, so I decided to go for it.

One of the selling point of this mini tools is fits on key chain. When I open the box and playing around with it....... hang on a minute, WHAT ? The tool without a lanyard or even a hole which can attach on a key chain. It was shocking. Is anyone here also brought this tool? What do you thik about this?

Yup, I bought one, too. And feel the same way you do about it--quite disappointed.

The minitools made by SwissTech do not have lanyard or key chain holes, but they are better constructed, and aren't like to fall off a key ring.

Only redeeming feature--it's cheap price.

Wow, did a search on them after finding this thread. Does look cool. But no keyRing Attachment?

But looking at the picture, I couldn't find the keyring attachment, either. Let me know what you guys find out about attaching it to a keyring. Would like to get it for that purpose. [EDC on keyring]

Uhh - just guessing here, but if you fold it up couldn't that notch behind the spring be used to clamp it around a keyring? (I'm assuming the blue parts fold foward to hold the blades closed when it's being carried.)

Yup, when the tool is fold up, the notch behind the spring can be used to attach on a key ring. But when you are using the scissors, the key ring will be drop, this is huge inconvenient /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif, therefore I drilled a small hole on the handle, that make a good EDC on the key ring. Considering the cost, this is a good entry level mini tools. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I saw that notch, but wasn't sure if the mini-tool 'locked' when closed. However, when using scissors as Roy mentioned earlier, it opens up and keyring drops off.
He got it right by drilling a hole himself.
