I decided to go with a tk11 flashlight. The fenix people suggested the AW line (which not surprisingly they carry) or something else?

This is something I want to know too as I will be getting the TK11. The general consensus is that AW's are the best. Trustfire are said to be good too. I am leaning towards the AW's because in my experience it always works out better when you start off with good quality cells.

I concur with the AWs. Reading a bunch of prior posts on this and trusting 4sevens (who runs the Fenix Store and is well-loved on CPF) I think that AWs seem to be of the highest quality group. Folks talk about Pila as being super-sonic but these seem to be pretty expensive.

The next question is chargers... and I worry about this although I did go with the Ultrafire one and am currently waiting for it to arrive. I think one key summary point is that regardles of the batts and chargers, you have to be careful wtih Li batts and generally it is good practice to remove them from the charger when the light goes green.

:)

I was wondering 'cause Tenergy is rated at 2600 mAh (about 9$) vs AW 2200 mAh at about 16$ !!!

Seems like I would be getting less for more....

I would be charging them on a maha 777plus...

Thats a pretty thick thread with a lot of stuff that I really dont understand. Could you just drop a name for a noob like me?

I've heard some of the cheaper brands over rate their capacity. I buy and use AW. I usually order them straight from AW in his sales thread on CPFMP.

Lithium-ion batteries aren't toys, they store a lot of power. That power can go BOOM and turn your TK11 into a pipe bomb. Do you want to fool around with a cheap battery to save a few bucks?

I would like to direct this on the comparison of capacity of a cheap cell versus a quality cell. A low quality manufacturer with a higher rated capacity cell may not perform as well or as long as a good manufacturer with a lower rated capacity battery. Real-life situation is not the same as what people advertise. I have used some cheaper batteries (trustfire), and they have given me headaches. I used some AW cells and for me, YMMV, they batteries worked really well!

About Trustfires - it also depends on battery type. 16340/RCRs are defective indeed but 18650s are great - high capacity for long time.

AW cells are rated at more cycles, and have additional safety features like the pressure switch if cell pressure exceeds a certain value, which the TF cells don't have. Personally I use the TF cells, though I don't recommend doing so unless you understand the risks.

i have used quite a few... i bought the AW, then some ultrafires, and then a couple tenergys. for me the Ultrafires stopped holding charge within only a few months of use. the Tenergy batteries lasted a little longer, about half a year. The AWs which i have had for over a year is still kicking and running. i average about 3 charge cycles per battery a week. I have also had a wolf-eye battery which lasted around the same amount of time as the Tenergy ones. I would highly recommend the AWs as it has been the only battery which lasted a decient amount of time. (best value after considering the amount of charge cycles)

The aw cells have always been the gold standard for batteries.. They work and fit well with the fenix lights.. Last night I used the TK11 with the AW cell with full charge..

2:45 runtime before drop into general mode and 90 minutes additional in general mode before shutting down.. The initial runtime on high is right on spec but the additional runtime with the aw cells far exceeded spec.. Over 4+ hours of runtime is very impressive for this light.. I use mine for bike riding and this light is a throwing monster..

Does anyone know if there is a reflector that would get me more sidespill.. The hotspot in considerably more concentrated than the L2d or P3d that I have..

This thread is about batteries rather than the TK11 itself, so I'm moving it into the Batteries section.

what about these there from hong kong anyone tried them i forund them while i was getting mixed up with trustfires whats the difference

This has been my concern w/ rechargeables...If I'm tussling with someone and I have an M3 and a 6P with li-ions on my duty belt, and they're getting banged around on the concrete, will they go BOOM or will they be protected enough by the flashlight body?
