That's a neat idea. I may make one up, but using an aluminum bar (instead of wood) for the backer. FWIW, most of the carbide tooling used for wood, like router bits, works well on 6061, same speed & feed.
 
I've seen similar set-ups using one main dowel at the top to support it and one secondary one to keep it vertical. The second one was not matched to the dovetail as it's only chore was to keep it straight. The claim was that it was easier to slip the tool into position that way.

It seems that a snug fit might hold them well enough that I could stash the board under a shelf and slide it out then drop it down on a hinge down when needed.
