Picked up this Greatland 4D/6V lamp years ago, as I love battery-operated table lamps. Very similar in design to the Coleman table lamps of the late 1980s and early 1990s, with some notable differences.
The hanger in this lamp is hard plastic and feels quite fragile, unlike the Coleman which is metal and fairly substantial; I don't think that I'd trust it hanging for very long. It takes either a standard 6V dry cell or 4 D cells in an included holder that slips into the battery compartment. It's also possible to operate the lamp from an external 6VDC supply using the input jack in its base. Bulb is a standard PR12 flange base incandescent, and the smallish switch is the standard push on-push, push-off affair.
So far, this is a pretty standard table/camping lamp, but it has a remarkable feature that I've never seen elsewhere: the lampshade glows in the dark!
The attached photo really doesn't do it justice; the shade glows fairly brightly with the usual tint of glow-in-the-dark green for a few minutes after the lamp has been on for a half-hour or so, and is easily detectable to my dark-adapted eyes for well over an hour. When camping, if the lamp was exposed to indirect sunlight inside a tent all day, it will glow perceptibly for much longer than that.
When I purchased it, I didn't even realize the lamp had this feature, as it was only mentioned briefly in small print on the box. Regardless, it's rather charming, and just something different.
As I said, this is the only lamp I've seen with this feature; does anyone have or know of other lamps that have elements which glow in the dark?
