I used to have this on my 870... it clamps on to the extended mag tube:

I very much dislike the tube/clamp style mounts. I've never had one go more than 50 rounds on a shotgun without sliding or moving in some way. My current setup on my Winchester 1200 is a small piece of picatinny rail through bolted onto the forend, and an old 1" scope ring to attach the light. You can get small sections of picatinny rail from any of the major gun suppliers.

I never had that problem, but I can see how it could easily happen. Biggest problem I had was finding a flashlight that could handle the recoil... my Pelican M6 LED was ruined within the first box of slugs!
