Interesting fact about Labor Day - first started in 1882 in New York City, by the Central Labor Union. 10,000 workers took the day off marched from 42nd Street to 92nd Street for an event of concerts, speeches and a picnic.

California closed down every national forest in the state due to the fire risk in northern CA. Going to be hard to enjoy the holiday when we keep getting banned from going to places we like to have fun at. Hope everyone else is having a better time.

From 42nd St to 92nd St……sounds like they took a half day off and spent half of it walking to and fro.

For some reason I've always thought it began when the folks working on the trans-continental railroad got a day to celebrate reaching a milestone they had reached while to poor surveyor was tasked with trying to find a path across the Rockies or something.

Anyway, in my industry (road work) it's the day we stop pissing and moaning about how hot it was all summer in order to prepare for the pissing and moaning about how cold it'll be in about 90 more days.

Some see it as the real beginning to vacation season since hotel rooms' rates drop while the weather is still good south of the Mason/Dixon line.

I've been known to go to Florida as hotels will drop to $100 that are usually $400 a night. Just gotta put up with the rain in the afternoon, but it's only for 10-15 minutes.
