Hi, I just ordered a little itp and was wondering which disposable batteries would be best to run in it. I don't really want to bother with rechargeables b/c i don't think it will see that much use to make it worth it. Thanks.

Put in some li-ion 10440's and the output on high will jump from 80lumens to about 200! Use them with caution though.. :caution:

Alright thanks a lot guys! I'll be sure to pick up some lithiums before it gets here.

I have two of these A3s and two A2 iTPs ... I use Low self-discharge batteries usually Eneloops and find that there is no problem ... I have an AA torch in the car which has an Energiser Lithium Primary in it plus a Solarforce L2i with three AAA Energiser Lithium Primaries in it ... I also keep three AAA and two AA Lithiums in the car as spares.

Out of all the different types of batteries , the ones that will eventually leak are the ordinary Alkalines ... Risk them if you wish , but be prepared to spend some time trying to clean up the inside of your nice torch ... It is sometimes better to just throw the torch out and get another one ... Once it has happened to you, you will never trust another alkaline cell of any make or size ... It is possible to use alkalines safely by removing them when they are not being used ... But that's too much hassle for me , hence the Eneloops (and similar) rechargeables.

If you won't be using your torch much , just get some Energiser Lithium primary cells ... They will last for many years and still work when needed ... Ideal for being left in a car ... If you change your cars every ten years or so , just check the torch still works OK before putting it in your new car.

+1 the lsd nimh battery options.
On my keychain is an a3 that draws +1A at the tail...that little light with a 10440 is awesome. Because it starts on medium and goes to low I find it incredibly practical. I've got the Ti version so scratches wouldn't be an issue.
Having the huge output as a back-up keychain light is just awesome. My co-worker wanted some praise for her smart choice of putting a 5mm coincell light on her keychain - right so the A3 is smaller and over 150 lumens brighter...

+1 on a great choice. The A3 is a remarkable demonstration. Feed it well.

Well i just picked up some l92 primaries, but if i were to put 10440's in, what would the risks be? Seems like too powerful a battery for such a little light made to produce 80Lm so what are the things you have to watch out for?

you would need to watch out for:
heat and discharging.

(you should also need to buy a li-ion charger and all)

if it was used on low or med with the 10440s would you still have a heat issue? thanks

No you wouldn't is the general consensus on cpf. If used on med it is just like running it on high with an ordinary 1.2-1.7v cell, low is like a slightly brighter low, and high mode turns into an incredible turbo! :naughty:

You will have to watch out for heat issues on high however, and regularly check voltage on your 10440 cells, especially before charging them, as there are currently no protected 10440 cells which will fit in the A3.

got it and man this thing is bright already for so small a package. I'm intrigued to see how it will look on 10440's though. If i remember reading somewhere the voltage should not go above 4.2 or below like 3.6 or something when charging? Is that what you mean I should check for?
