I want to install a stainless steel bezel on my HDS EDC. There is a retaining ring holding the glass lens that I assume must be removed to install the new bezel. The retaining ring has 4 small slots 90 degrees apart. What kind of tool is needed to turn the ring? Is this tool available for purchase?

Sometimes you get lucky and can remove the HDS bezel ring with nothing more than the fingernails on your thumb and index finger. This worked for both my B42 and my U60GT.

Press your thumb against your index finger. Slide them slightly, as if you were trying to twist the end of a piece of thread. Keep them in this position, then jam the fingernails into two opposite notches in the bezel ring. It is important to remember to use your right hand for tightening the bezel ring, and your left hand to loosen the bezel ring.

If I recall correctly, I think 4sevens gets the credit for first sharing this idea.

Turning them upside down on a mouse pad at pressing hard while turning the light can work (worked on one of my EDC's). I've also read about cutting up an old credit card to fit into the grooves on either side of the face and twisting it off. Just be warned, some of the bezel rings can be really hard to get off...I sent one away to Milkyspit to get modified and he had a bugger of a time getting it off.

alanagnostic's method works very well. I've done it to great success on 5 different HDS's I've had. It may take some oomph and elbow grease, but just bust out and do it =)
