I know, I know, I'm an idiot. :banghead:

Looking at the WA website, the 1164 has a filament diameter of 1.08mm and the 1185 is 0.86mm. So, the one that looks like a thin screwthread is the 1185 and the fatter wire with clear air gaps between each turn of the helix is the 1164?

I did take a picture but it didn't look too hot once I imported it from the camera (poor macro DoF) and it's too late to take another now. :sleepy:

Cheers, Kev.

This issue always drives me nuts too. I have a supply of 1164, 1166, 1186, 1331, 1274, & 1111 WA bulbs. Here are two closeups of three of those bulbs. I think this is good enough resolution to distinguish them when side by side, but it would be nice to have a nice macro lens. What camera/lens setup do you have Chodes, to get that nice shot?

LuxLuthor,

Thanks for the pictorial. 1164 has the "looser" coils. 1166 has denser coils. 1185 has denser and longer coils. I tried writing the number onto the bi-bin socket with a sharpie, but the ink usually got either vapored or rubbed off after a while.

Chodes,

Nice images, thanks for sharing! What focal length macro lenses is that and how far is your subject from the lenses and flash? I am new to the auto-focus world and the only macro lenses I know is half in length and girth.

With Aloha,

Clarence

Hot dang, Chodes. That is a sweet photo.

LL, your comparo is very useful. There should be no doubt why the 1166 is such a peach. The tight coil and the ~2A under load. I am so not done fiddling with 1166s. Thanks for the pic work.
