I want to build a P7 based helmet-mounted mountain biking light. I've really enjoyed reading the various threads about the many flashlight mods, but there are a few differences between a maglite mod and a helmet light that I'd like to ask about.
I'm thinking about using just the head of a maglite with a wire to a battery pack on my back, this means the batteries are more flexible because the shape and size is not constrained as much. What would be the ideal battery pack and driver for this setup?
Also, I'm concerned that a D-sized maglite head may be too large for helmet mounting. I'd love to use a mini-mag head. Any change of fitting a P7 and driver into just the head of a mag mini, and heat-sinking it appropriately?
Also, a nighttime biking expedition would require more than an hour of continuous use (hopefully 2 hours). What configuration would give me the best results given the small package, long run-time, and potential heat problems, given that the battery could be almost anything?
Any thoughts on any of these items would be greatly appreciated!
