I need some tips and suggestions "rules of the thumb" to make some boost circuits, I dont have anything right now that i need it for, just would like to gather info.

Thanks

I think the important thing for boost circuits is to make sure Vout > Vin. I think I read somewhere that the other stuff is sort of just details or something. :tinfoil:
Right? :grin2:

I'm no help at all, I know. If only I knew more stuff. Sorry :(

What do you want the boost circuits for? There are inductive and capacitive boost circuits (among others).

Depending on physical size, weight, efficiencies, voltages, and other options (current limits, current regulation, soft start, battery protection, etc.)--it is like asking what are the rules for designing a car.

Generally, look up a couple different IC's and read their application data sheets. The designs are usually bullet proof, many times there are demo boards available, and they have lots of help on design variations in the App Notes.

I think he said rtfm.

You could try 'The Art of Electronics' - Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill - Cambridge University Press. Lots of good sense in there...

The most critical component in boost circuit is the inductor. The quality affect the efficiency and output current a lot.

Besides the inductance, you also need to know the maximum peak current it can handle before satuation, workable frequency, iron loss, copper loss..... Because inductor's parameters are difficult to measure without special equipment.
