HID information needed

I just built a 20V w/fet 5D 64458 mag and wanted to build a high power HID spotlight in a mag host too.

Where do I find the information to get started.

Find a ballast that will fit. You're looking for "slim" or "compact" ballasts, and they'll probably run on 12v. I think the ones I've seen are about the size of 2.5 D cells, though.

I know Ushio Solarc is a good what appears to be an all in one drop in, but they are limited in power.

What is my most powerful bulb and/or bulb and ballast option for a mag D host?

I have a few reflectors I can modify if I need to.

Are there any canned maglite products for sale on the forum or?

The Solarc would make a great bike light or emergency light because its great for conserving battery life, but not in the high power category.

To my knowledge, the Solarc is still the only ballast that will fit in a D size mag tube. With regards to aluminum tube HIDs, you've got all kinds of other options these days though that we didn't have 2-3 years ago.

To fit a full power (35W & up) HID into a stock Mag has never been done, simply because no ballast that small.

I also have some links in there on prior attempts from others, where either a big head or a big neck were needed.

FYI, my 35w mag HID was short lived, I potted my connections as one lamp wire was too close to the bare alu wall,
then fired up before waiting for the potting material to dry. Poof :eek:

Down load was selling a 35W HID mag set-up with a blown-up neck, maybe he still has some for sale?

theres always the Uber self endeavor.... building your own "form fit" ballast if you really want a Mag stock look with 35w HID. but that would be one hell of an endeavor!!!
