Shined my HID light on my palm for perhaps 15 seconds and it makes a strange smell. A halogen spotlight doesn't do this and I think it's the UV content.. ANyone else notice this?

What light exactly are you using? Sounds like the glass isnt blocking UV or something odd like that.

Im going to try that tonight and see if my hand smells. I think you just might have some residual stank from the rubber strap pad. I could be totally off base of course but who knows....

To my understanding, with HID lights a UV-absorbing hard glass shield is incorporated around the bulb's arc tube, don't think its UV unless you got an odd light.

I use the Power-On-Board from Sam's Club, and the two Amondotech lights - Illuminator and N30. I have run them for hours with no odd effects.

They do generate quite a bit of heat through the front glass - perhaps something your hand is exposed to - chemical, soap, or lotion does not like it. Do you also get this reaction out in the sun?

Nope. Just this light and UV light. Have you held your hand in front of it for ten seconds or so, then smell your hand?

This reminds me too much of the old Beavis and Butthead routine of "Pull My Finger." I'll just take your word for it that "something" is making your hand smell funny, and I'll assume you have not been cleaning fish recently.

I didn't want to try the beam on my hand (adverse to potentially destructive testing ). But I did verify that the beam contains UV rays by putting my Transitions photochromic eye glasses in front of the light and they turned dark quickly.

Maybe it is the UV light causing Ozon
(does it smell sharp and electric)
