I promised to let everybody know if I found decent pricing.

The components are Welch Allyn
Phone number is 360-687-4530
fax 360-687-8164

This bulb has the reflector (6 deg spot) and would make it non focusable. Still a good price.

They have two sizes: MR16 (25 watts only one driving 24 degree bulb is available, so no spots and floods are available) and MR11 (13 watts available in spot 6 degree or flood 12 degree). The ballast on the MR16 is external (soon to be integrated)and is about 4"x 1 1/2"x 1/2"deep, and must be located within 18" of each lamp.
Pricing is as follows:
MR16 lamp $59.95
MR16 Ballast $59.95
MR11 lamp $39.95
MR11 ballast $39.95

I called the number. Trailtech.com

They do atv and motorcycle lighting. The mr11 products are wa solararc(good pricing) and the MR16 are manufactired to their specs.

They expect to have the MR16 (25 watt HID) with integrated ballast August 1. They will have a 2" inch reflector with 2" body capsule/ballast.... just need to add a body and powersupply.

This looks very interesting

That web address seems goto a company that makes trailers and has no mention of lights?
I do belive I have seen there products on ebay but currently they don't have anything listed

Sorry, I forgot to include the link. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif
These are the best prices I've found yet.
I'm looking into direct import from China now. It might take awhile for me to sort out.

I would say a 12volts 4Ah lead acid or NiMh battery at 12 volts will be whats needed.

I just ordered an MR16 bulb and ballast for an upcoming project. The external ballst they sell is soon to be discontiuned so if one whants one they better act fast.
One total MR16 with a housing and external ballast is about $160 bucks

The mr11 is a 10watt system. The ballast for it is WA p/n B10N002, designed for use with 10 nicad or nimh cells. I don't have the mr16 info .

The MR16 bulb that trailtech sells does not seem to be a welch allyn. It's a realy neet looking arc tube that has the arc running horizontal. The Welch allyn 21watt bulbs seem to be vertical like a very mini D2S, The 10 watt welch allyn are the same way. I don't know the manufacture of trailtech's 21 watt ballast as well. The one I blew up I cut away a lot of the potting epoxy and it's insides seem to not match the pictures that welch allyn has on there site.
Now for some more technical stuff.
Trailtech's 21 watt system does not seem to be made to the same standards as welch allyn's systems. It is basily a horizontal arc tube that may have been made by osram?(I have matched pics in the past but need to relook up stuff) That is about the size of a 50 or so watt bi pin based quartz bulb thats cemented into a MR16 type reflector that one would see in track lighting or a overhead projector. Wires are added to the assembly and then potted with epoxy and then has heat shrink tubing over that.(seems kinda po-dunk) The heat shrink gets soft after operating for a while as well. The ballast has wires that plug into sockets from the bulbs wires and power is fed to the ballast via a cable thats termenated by a socket. (the wiering harness for a hella 3rd generation ballast fits, so it's a standard connector) The ballast it's self is about half the size of a standard 35 watt hid ballast and is constructed from plastic and is potted with epoxy. It's nominal operating voltage is listed at 12.8 volts and will run down below 12 volts but the bulb seems to flicker at lower voltages. It draws just under 2 amps in my testing when at full operating temp. The beam from the lamp is dissapointing. It's a 21 degree lamp and because of that it makes a great area/flood light but has no throw. Also the lamp flickers badly at lower voltages and has flashes of red, but this is probly due to the lamp not being broken in. If there is demand I can post pictures of the ballast and bulb. After the bulb is broken in I will post about that and when I am done moding my vetorlite with the 10 watt system I will post that as well, I am currently having heat problems with that ballast and am trying to solve that.
anyway gota Fly!

Well here are a few pics.

very interesting... but I don't believe that what you got is their "new" system, as the ballast and bulb are integrated, and reportedly will fit in a 2 -1/2" head (which btw, I am working with a machinist to make head to fit a 3d mag loaded with aa nimh aa's.

when I taked with trailtech, I was told, "think uk100" size capsule. the other thing is that August 1st is the expected release date, at the very earliest....

Must be the newest if nothing else has come out yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif
At least you got a cute young one in your middle picture. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Draco, could you post a few beam shots of your MaxaBeam in action? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yeh it's not the integrated ballast as that's not out yet. so this is what trailtech currently has as of a week ago. I will probly order their integrated system "if" they have a tighter then 21 degree bulb.
That would be intersting having that installed in a mag light! That might get a bit warm though?

I will take some beam shots of both of My main lights(Maxabeam and HID Lightforce) this weekend as it will be more practical and controlled due to the location I will be camping at. I belive I have the thermal problem solved with my vectorlite 118r and will post pics of that mod useing the 10watt hid. Todate thats not as bright as the stock light was but it should have one heck of a runtime, thats what I was after.
