Ive just got my hid kit and tried installing it in the spotlight, except when i try and power it up it flicks once and then nothing,
Have i got the wiring incorrect as im not sure if the +ve and -ve connection should be used like that or do i need to cut it off and attach it another way??
How i have it wired up is the +ve wire from the cig lighter connected to blue wire from ballast, and neg wire from cig connected to black wire from ballast
Any help would be great.

Just a thought Josh, (didn't realise you were running it off the cigarette lighter) cigarette lighters are notorious for poor connections, burnt tobacco makes for fairly grotty connections, some cars have less than ideal wiring to the lighter.
From past experience (wearing my amateur radio hat now) I have seen plenty of people stuff up trying to run radios using the lighter.

Yeah, I'd try wiring directly to the battery to get ample power.
I too had problems in the past trying to use cigarette lighter outlets as a power source for stuff.

so my actual wiring is correct? i shall get some clips and test that tomorrow.

Wiring looks fine Josh.
All the colour coding is wrong though, won't cause a problem other than being confusing.

well im actually colour blind myself, so :) good old test light tells me which is positive and neg !

sounds like any part of the setup can not stand the high inital current draw
(just while 1st few strikes)

what is the value of the cigaret outlet fuse and does it not melt?

PS: You could try one thing: directly hook the wires to Your cars battery (use a 10 A fuse in an on-the-fly setup. This might stand the current, and if not, there is a bit of safety at least)
(Pls, if someone sees an error in this idea: post immediately!!)
