Hi Friends,

yesterday i got an used HAM Transceiver from eBay and it seems that the Display Lights are broken. I want to replace them with two excellent 5mm white LED. I've just tested with cheap no-Name China Vendor white LED and its a very cold Light (may be 8000K...). So i search for two better LED, ideal if they should have:

5mm Standard Epoxy Case
5000 - 6000 Kelvin
High CRI (should provide a-near-Sunlight)
Long Life (the China poop go dim after 1000 Hours, even at 20mA)

Does anyone knows a Vendor who sale them ?

I tried some Nichia GS LEDs and they produced a neutral white balance with camera set to "sun" WB. Since there was no color casts, this tells me the CRI is very good as cameras are sensitive to poor CRI light sources.

Now the bad news. The GS LED seems to be a hard to find item, you have to buy a bunch to get a good price which is far higher than any Chinease LED. They don't fade but you will need to sand the dome to disperse the light because it is focussed with a bluish center. My best solution if you need only two is to find a Target store and buy a couple of the energizer little squeeze lights for $3 ea and hack out the Nichia GS LED in them.

Another option is to go to Radio Shack and buy the 276-017 LEDs Two for $2. These are a bit warm at around 4200K, but much cooler than the incandescent lamps they replace. They have a 30 Deg beam and did not fade in my 192 hour 30ma drive test.

Most of the high-power 5mm white LED's I have tried are too cool. But I have used three 50 deg WW LED's from LEDSupply.com for my Surefire A2. They have the best CRI I have seen from a 5mm LED, and the color temperature is very warm around 3600K.

I think they are from Nichia, but LEDSupply would not confirm it, the LED leads looks like they are from Nichia though.

LEDSupply also have is the same LED with 15 degree angle as well.

Hi !

Thank you @all for your support. I think i try these pearl white 4900K from Evidot LED. They're in the Range of Colour Temperature that i prefer for this Application.

@dchao: thx for response, but these 3600K were too warm for this Display.
