Just got back from Finland were I ran in the Jokola Orienteering relay. This event had 1450 teams of 7 with the starting at 11pm so headlamps needed for the first 3-4 legs. So there were somting like 4500 high powered headlamps on show. I was running leg 2 for my team so I got to see the start and then people getting ready for the second leg in the warm up area.
90-95% of the lights are still the old 20W hallogen style, mainly Silvas although there are other makes. For the rest there was a scattering of Lupine Wilmas and a few Bettys. There were also Petzle Ultras and a new one to me the Mila Nova. There were also a few Hids although I am not sure of the make. There were less home mades than I would of expected I only saw 2 apart from mine, a 6 led afair similar to mine and a circular 7 led setup.
The Mila Nova was interesting as its quite similar to my homemade with 6 Leds which turn out to be rebels and square Ledil optics 4 giving a fairly wide 17 degree beam and and 2 44 degree ovals. For my homemade I have 6 Cree Q5s with 2 oval, two real spot and 2 diffuse optics.
I have uploaded some picures including some closeups of the Mila from the shop at the event.
