high power LED array

i have just about everything i need to light my LEDs. (chips still coming...)
Getting my 60 watt 12v 5 amp max LED driver soon.
im going to use this circuit to power 2 LEDs in series (i heard i can only power 2 LEDs in series if i use this circuit. but not sure now much voltage each LED will draw. does someone know?)
*instead of using LM117 im going to use LM317T.*

im going to have heatsinks fans on a different power supply.

ok it turns out that i need more LEDs...

Does anyone know where to get Luxeon K2 LEDs at a great price????
 
You can use LED driver for driving 1-8 LEDs and i advice to use a driver rather than using many single led driver chips. The best place to buy luxeon is future electronics website. I am not sure whether there is a minimum order amount.
 
You could also use Cree XR-E P4 and up(Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5) Seoul P4 or Edison K LEDs that have double the efficiency of the Luxeon LEDs(Seoul and Edison has the similar/same emitting pattern compared to the Luxeon, Cree has a narrower emitting angle). They just can't be driven as hard(3.7V and 1 Amp max, Can be overdriven but then you'll need a better heat-sink, should be fine if you use a heat-sink and a fan) but you'll only need half the power to generate the same brightness.

Dealextreme sells the Cree, Seoul and Edison LEDs for a good price, they also have Luxeons too. Shipping usually takes between 2 weeks to a month. Or you can buy from the CPF marketplace.

Much easier to solder onto these than the pins of those chips. Look at the Shark for a boost regulator and SOB for a buck regulator (reduces voltage). Shark has adjustable current and SOB is available in different values.

I second what was said above, the luxeon K2 has already been made obsolete by seoul and cree which are also available at the Sandwich shoppe.

im using the regulators and resistors because my AC adaptor isnt stabilized.


i might try the LED driver without anything.


but for sure im going to use those resistors and regulators for the laptop power supply.

If you use constant voltage power supply, you have to use resistor based current regulation. However do not forget, as the heat rises at base of the LEDs, the internal resistor value of the LED will drop dramatically. That is not a big problem for 20ma LEDs but it is a great problem with high power LEDs. Moreover, the connected resistor can reach to 100-200 Centigrade, which can harm you or the casing of the system.
 
whats the best LED Lumen output that doesnt cost a fortune...

im going with K2 right now (i know their a little "old" now) but Rebel is just too small for me to work with.

i pretty much got diagrams down. just need somethings. like the LEDs...

Some regulators/drivers will burnout without a load. Be careful.

The Seoul/Edison is only a a bit smaller then the K2 and it has the better performance then the higher end Rebel LEDs(Seoul's minimum is at 91 lumen at 350 mA, the lower end ones have the exact same performance as the normal Luxeon, 40 lumen at 350 mA). The Crees are harder to solder. The LEDs are also sell them on stars/boards to aid in soldering,

Dealextreme: Cree square board, Cree Star board(Q5 version, most efficient), Cree Round board14mm(16mm board), Seoul Star board(be careful to check that the LED is attached correctly, both thermally and electrically), they also have a Rebel on a 13mm board, They also have the K2 emitter.

Also check around the CPF marketplace(dealers section) for LEDs.
