Well, after all the wishing and wanting I finally "pulled the trigger" and ordered an 80mw from Lucent. Excitement would be an understatement!

Thank you Lucent for offering a fantastic laser at a great price without the worries of customs issues!

Hopefully it won't take two weeks to get to PA, I don't think I could stand the wait!

I will post pics of course!

It should only take 2-3 days now that they've switched to Priority. I got mine in 2 days.

Enjoy your new laser!

BTW, as you may have read elsewhere, the OtterBox 2 Cigar Caddy works great for this laser. It also holds a spare set of batteries, the keys, and the dongle, and is waterproof. (http://www.otterbox.com/products/cigar_caddy/2_stick/)

I ordered mine for about $15 on amazon.com.

Re: Hooray! Finally ordered an 80mw enVee!!

Thanks, I actually bought something very similar when I was at my local cigar shop. It looks like a small version of one of those fancy metal poker chip holders with room for 4 lasers.

But, it's not waterproof. If I go anywhere that water may pose a threat I'll definitely think about the OtterBox.

Apex I agree with Zig, look into getting the Otterbox 2 from Amazon or Ebay, the EnVee's fit into it perfectly. You are going to love your EnVee. There is a new community for EnVee owners at www.lucentoptics.com/community. Please feel free to join as we would love to have you. Welcome fellow EnVee owner.. You don't have to own an EnVee to join, so welcome to all.

If you haven't done so, check out the videos of the EnVee here on CPF... under EnVee movies....

Is there an actual discussion forum on there yet or is it still in development? I don't see any topics or posts.

Re: Hooray! Finally ordered an 80mw enVee!!

It arrived today! It has lived up to every expectation, even popping balloons from 6' with NiMh 1.25v rechargables. I'd be happy to type more but I don't want to be sitting here, I want to go fire it up again :D :D :D

Re: Hooray! Finally ordered an 80mw enVee!!

Thats great to hear. Looks like a pretty solid product.

Re: Hooray! Finally ordered an 80mw enVee!!

This thing just seems to get brighter and brighter the more I use it. Stings the fingers nicely. (attempted while wearing safety glasses of course).

Re: Hooray! Finally ordered an 80mw enVee!!

takes some pics and put them in your gallery on our website :)

I'll have to take a picture of the battery cover on my DVD remote that I melted my and my wifes first initials into last night too, lol. I apologize for not having pics up yet, just been busy.

Ok, here are some pictures, including the one of the remote I mentioned. (I did that while wearing my Dewalt glasses of course!)

Someone is inevitably going to ask...."How is it running without the interlock dongle?" Because, I found the dongle to be a weak point in the unit. If I wiggled it around the beam would vary anywhere from <1mw up to the normal 80+mw output.

I took the cap apart and carefully soldered a copper wire between the two contacts on the dongle socket to ensure a constant solid connection. The tailcap key still functions normally. I assume I voided my warranty by doing so but it was a worthwhile sacrifice for a rock-solid reliable output.

The EnVee is such a well built unit I'm not worried about it anyways. I'll probably still be playing with this decades from now.

I took the lanyard off of a luxeon light and put in on the EnVee, a nice bit of insurance against the inevitable clumsy moment.

By the way, there's no smoke or anything in the room. Maybe some dust from our finches but that's the way the beam always looks to the naked eye for those wondering if the beam is really visible in a lit room without any smoke. The answer is a resounding "yes".
