The wife came across a an elchepo hand held h3 Halogen 55W spot light. Only $15.00au. I took it home and tried it out after hooking up battery, but was unimpressed at the old fashioned Yellow light and power drain.
I tried to put in a g4 10 watt and completly stuffed that up...eventually I came across a "8 SMDs LED H3 Xenon HID White Foglight Light Bulbs" on Ebay"

I've ordered them hoping to see an improvement and less power drain. Should it be a simple case of inserting the new H3 LED bulb and connecting the wires?

Yes, but those SMD bulbs have LEDs all over them, so there is no single focus point. It'll be floody as heck but likely no or not much spot. Power drain will be much less. Not a bad purchase for the price though.

Auto bulbs have a single point of focus.

Thanks for the response...Sounds really good to me. I'm just seeing what the options are for 12v lighting at lower power consumptions are. The wider an area I can cover the better. I'm only just beginning to understand the colour tempretures. Seems like a good forum to learn in.

Thanks again.

.. those are the "cluster-stick" kind of bulbs right?.... Ditto the other member comments. You'll have a very floody light, and power consumption should drop considerably too. Do post back your results, I have been thinking about making a floody wall of light kind of work light.
