lovecpf So i bought a fenix ld20 and it made this flashlight seem ancient. This flash light I have is this one here....

This flashlight for all intensive purposes looks like a 3 D cell maglight
I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade 1. the bulb housing thingy to modern LED and 2. upgrade the battery to something more cost efficient.

If anyone can direct me that would be great!

Personally I would just go out any buy a Maglite and follow this tutorial. But if you are really want to use that Maglite impostor, then you are going to have to make a custom heatsink, or maybe you can fit H22A's heatsink in there, it could fit. And if you want more cost effective batteries, then I would start with Nimh batteries. It doesn't have to be expensive, you can buy cheap nimh D batteries and a 4 slot charger at harbor freight for cheap.

I had no idea Brinkmann still produce those 3D lights.I owned one back in the early 90's and haven't seen them sold locally since than. For some reason I thought they were one of the companies MagLite sued back to the stone age.

SmurfTacular is right of course-forget the Brinkmann and go with the Maglite. You will have so many more options in the long run.

If a maglite drop-in fits, you can always replace the incan bulb with it. You can also replace the old luxeon III on the maglite drop-in with a seoul p4. Here's the link. Depending on what the dimensions are, you might be able to get one of H22A's heatsinks and install an XP-G.

none of the mag reflectors will fit, plastic reflector that is in that light will not stand up to serious bulbs, i had 3c brinkmann, meh
what you can do without going crazy is to get 5 a123 cells, 18v bulb from homedepot, i'm talking about bulb that used in flashlights that use cordless tool batteries, they are regular pr bulbs, but sometimes flange is to wide, you'll need to file it a bit. dewalt 18v bulb is rated at 325lm. stock plastic lens and reflector should be fine with that bulb, it did ok in maglite.

filament in those bulbs has v shape, what i tried once is i frosted a bulb beam became a lot more smoother, but i lost some intensity in the hot spot, however i liked it that way better, i used castrol superclean spray, i poured some in a cup, and dipped the bulb for a day, i hung it so the glass part was submerged, but base was above the liquid, that i let it dry, the solution has some sort of acid or something it it made the bulb opaque, (i found out these properties of cleaner the hard way, i cleaned the dash in my old car, and some got on the bottom of the windshield, i didn't wipe it right away, once it dried, it was too late, it etched the glass)

you can also swap your bulb for either luxeon 3 bulb, or ever led diamond, but none will be as bright as your original bulb, not to mention dewalt bulb. i,m not aware of other off the shelf drop led ins that are made for your light.

of course it is possible to turn it into more but that will require custom fabrication, and wont worth the effort, the same can be done with mag for a lot less.
but i assume you want to upgrade that particular light, not buy a new one,
