I also use the matchstick case holder (I bought a bunch of green ones from Cheaper Than Dirt) I added an O-Ring and a disc of 2mm craft foam. You can also wrap the batteries in a piece of split vinyl tubing for that perfect fit! I also epoxied a clip to the end for a lanyard.

But....an apx film canister fits 2 side-by-side!? The devil you say! Thats even better....FREE!

This is inexpensive and suitable as long as you don't carry them in you pockets. The Saran wrap will undo and expose the batteries. Try applying a rubber band around the package to help keep it intact.

How do you carry spares on your person?

I carry trhe Double Magnum in my right trouser pocket or slip it in my trouser waistband with the sole key exposed but covered by my suitcoat.
 
I suspect that there are a lot of medicine bottles the 123s will fit in nicely with some anti rattle material added to the bottom. Take this advice guardedly; but I never store batteries with contacts touching, just to be on the safe side.Its easy to make insulators out of a coffee can lid, pringles lid, even a milk jug (washed out) and make discs to place between the terminals. For the high out put disc cutter use a cheap 3/8 drive socket of the approximate size and grind an edge on the outside edge and hammer em out

Yeah, I have the 3-cell and 2-cell versions of these. They're great! I have one strapped to my backpack, and the others I occassionally wear.

I think this seems like a great idea, as my pockets are getting quite filled up with other stuff.

I really like those high speed metal tube capsules like the one at TAD Gear or Berkeley Point, but at over $30 each I started looking for cheaper alternatives.

I used a 3/4" diam. X 2" sprinkler riser tube and capped both ends with threaded pvc caps. The beauty of this setup is that:

1. the riser threads are tapered (ie waterproof) so you don't need to glue or tape them.

2. The caps are rounded on the insides and I think this will help prevent terminal damage.

3. The caps are ribbed to help provide grip and this feature also helps prevent rolling.

4. you can get the risers in longer lengths but the 2" fits 2 x 123's perfectly with only the slightest bit of rattle. I could even put a couple of those felt sticker dots they sell with the furniture coasters at walmart inside each cap to completely eliminate it and add protection.

5. PVC is super strong but lightweight. At over 235lbs, I can stand on my capsule with one foot on a hard tile floor, and if I didn't think I would break my neck, I know I could jump on it and the thing wouldn't know the difference.

like somebody said before, a pvc assembly is a little bulky for carry, but in a backpack, glovebox, tacklebox etc., it would be perfect. total cost: ~$1.50 at Home Depot. If I had any idea on how to "host'n'post" pictures yet I would.

I'm definitely going to check out the orange match case though. The bright color should make it easy to spot.

I have the blade-tech spare battery carriers mentioned above. They are nice. I do have a spare battery tucked alongside my Arc LSH-P inside the Arc pouch too.
 
Only found this 10 minutes ago, a toothbrush from the plane, just need to snap the toothbrush off and put a bit of tape around the cover to make it a bit tighter, it fits 2 123s perfectly! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I keep 6 123's in the field case from inanycase.com in my laptop bag.

I carry the orange match case around with me if I'm not going to be near my bag. I've padded the ends with bits of excess pelican pick-n-pluck foam, and I keep the batteries from touching by trimming a stock plastic minimag lens a bit and slipping that between them.
 
I individually wrapped 2 123s in sandwich bags and stuck them in a Reeses Pieces candy container (an M&M minis' container is essentially the same thing). I used another sandwich bag as a cushion to stop the cells from sliding around.

Not the best solution, but it works. Now that I read the other posts, I think I'll do some more experimentation. I never though of Logicnerd's idea to use a glasses case as a holder. I'll have to try that.
 
I have 4 123's in a mini-nylon pouch in my LL Bean nylon briefcase that I take with me everywhere I go. The pouch orignally came with a mini-Leatherman knock-off and is about an inch wide and 3 inches long, and holds 4 cells quite nicely stacked side by side with a Velcro flap over the top.
 
I am currently working on a holster that allows the carry of 2 batteries right next to the light. If it works I'll post some pics. I tend to make most of my gear. But for now I use a tackle box that stores several of my flashlight, accessories, and batteries in the trunk of the car. During the summer when it is hot I just take it in the house.

Daybag:
-use ziplock bag presently (4xAA, 4x123) but will upgrade to the match case or slide by my nearest photo store and beg for some empty APS cases.

Going away to cottage/special events/weekend getaway:
-have a complete Flashlight Service Kit ("FSK") in a rubbermaid food storage container about 8"x8"x2.7" that resides permanently in my always-packed travel bag. (used only for servicing lights away from home)

FSK Contains: (could start another thread here! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sssh.gif)
10xAA's, 8xC's, 6x123's, 4xAAA's, 2xA76BP2, mini digital multimeter, 400 grit emery paper (1"x2"), small hunk of vinyl eraser, spare bulbs/modules for all lights that travel and reside in trauma/resus bags in van, small btl isopropyl alcohol (2oz), paper towels cut up into small 2"x3" squares (~30), silicone grease and 1cc syringe (for getting silicone grease into tight spots!), 10 Q-tips, extra lanyards, mini flat blade screwdriver, inventory sheet, extra "D" belt loop for mag. (need to get a digital camera to post a shot...)

Adapting a holder to fit 123's to reside on my duty belt is a great idea! Good idea sharing! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I use split rubber tubing with the batteries inserted tip to tip. OD of the tubing is the same as a 123. With daily vest/coat pocket EDC they have never come loose. I carry a 2 and a 3 pack.

The aps canister is a great idea. Recycling at it's best.
 
Until now I used to tightly wrap each battery in plastic from a plastic bag and tape them together in packs os 2.
But seeing those posts I will start looking around a bit for some small boxes originally intended for other purposes.
 
Woo, I hadn't heard of the Blade-Tech carriers. Just ordered one each of the 2 and 3 cell. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've tried carrying spares in saran wrap and plastic bags in my pocket. It gets worn out and torn very easily though. Also, a pain to remove the battery for use.

I've considered the double magnum metal container, but it seems to be overkill for me. I already have a similar pill fob for carrying Advil, and there's noticeable weight to it. Don't need more weight still. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also have the SC1 and SC2 carriers, which are nice for the car...but not so nice to carry on my person -- bulky. Too bulky for my backpack too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The Blade-Tech carriers seem to be way to go for me!
 
For backup for my Arc LS, I like the regular magnum key fob, that just holds one CR 123. That's all I need in my pocket. I cut the fob off to make it even smaller. There's just enough room in the lid to add some insulating material to protect against shorts and keep the battery from rattling.
