I recently came into possession of an Arc LS marked LSL-S 001. It started me thinking about other Arc LSs that have a serial number 001 -- wondering where they are, how many of them there are, etc. I have surveyed the thread “ARC LS Owners.... ROLL CALL!” It seems that there are more than a dozen different kinds of designators before the serial numbers themselves, LSH-S and LSH-P being the best known. The following are ones mentioned in the thread:
<ul type="square">[*]First Run # xxx
[*]LS1 xxx
[*]LS1-xxx
[*]LS2 xxx
[*]LS2-xxx
[*]LS-2 xxx
[*]LSHS xxx
[*]LSH-S xxx
[*]LSH-ST xxx
[*]LSH-P xxx
[*]LSH-P-xxx
[*]LSL-S xxx
[*]LSL-ST xxx
[*]LSL ST xxx
[*]LSLP xxx
[*]LSL-P xxx
[/list]
The question I am trying to answer is: “How many different kinds of designators does Arc have before the serial number?” I think this is the same question as, “How many series of lights are there?” or “How many Arc LSs are there with S/N 001?”

I have deleted from the list above the ones where the punctuation was in doubt. I’ve done that because punctuation, it turns out, is important. Remember that series of posts where one CPF member had LSH-P 848 and another had LSH-P-848? Two diffent LSH-Ps – same serial number. It seems that a different series of letters and dashes indicates a different series of lights.

If Peter Gransee has any comments about this, they would be especially welcome. For example, he might wish to say something about how different versions relate to different designators. He may have the key to the whole puzzle.

If anyone has an LS with a designator different from what’s on the list, or has some thoughts about multiple serial numbers or low serial numbers, please post here.

If anyone else owns one of the 001 serial numbers, by all means speak up. (If you’re thinking about selling it, please PM me.)

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

I believe Jolly Roger has first run 001. I think it also sports a Luxeon that might be a bit shy of today's standards............ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Each designation has it's own serial number sequence. The models are:

"First Run" - this is the first LS we made!
"LS1"
"LS2"
"LS3"
"LS4-S"
"LS4-P"

"LSL-S", "LSL-ST"
"LSL-P"
"LSH-S", "LSH-ST"
"LSH-P"

Don -- Yes, I saw JollyRoger’s post in the “Roll Call” thread. I thought he was funnin’ with us. He even said he had LSH-P 001, 002, 003 . . . and perhaps more. Maybe he’ll speak up here. If not, I’ll e-mail him later. Thanks for the information.

Peter -- I appreciate your input. So there have been (or will be) 10 different models, including the LS4. I guess that means 10 different SN 001s. I sure would like to find out where they are. That gives me an idea. Have you considered selling the LS4-P 001 and the LS4-S 001 as special items so that they don't slide into obscurity? I certainly would be interested, as I think a lot of others would be, even if they turn out to be seconds. Or maybe it would appropriate to auction them with proceeds going to the CPF coffers or the Arc LDF kitty, or both.

Whooo. Can't get much lower. I did a search and found the thread, "MINE ALL MINE!!! SUPER "COLLECTERS" LS FOR A MEASELY $70," in which Flagone said:

What do you think about an Arc LS First Run #000 ?

Thanks for the tip, Sean.
