Huntlight FT-01XSE CREE Edition

I purchased a Huntlight FT-01XSE XR-E Cree edition. I pulled it out of the box and inscribed on the light is "FT-01XSE 3W LED H26"

Based on the size of the LED and the brightness, it doesn't seem like a CREE.
Also, this light has a very large dark ring around the corona, which I'm really not happy with.

Other than the makring on the box, how can I be sure that this is the Cree Model, and not the 3W LED version?

Well if you just look at the LED itself it will look much different that a normal Lux 1 or Lux 3. Put it side by side with any luxeon light and look into the head at the emitter (with the light off!). If they look very different than you have the Cree version, if they look the same, you don't.

Another way would be to just shine it against a wall beside any Luxeon light. The Cree Huntlight will be MUCH MUCH brighter than any luxeon light on the market (with the exception of some multi Luxeon mods).

@coppertail - it seems that you have the cree version. because of the dark ring you said.

as per iron said - take a look at the led. you will see the difference
they did not rename the body.. thats sucks!

They did not change the inscription (yet). The Cree version has multiple levels - click to turn it on, then half-click to change levels - the brightness should decrease in 5 steps, then strobe, then sos. Hope that helps.

coppertrail, You should have the correct light.
I bought the Huntlight FT01PJ XR-E Cree P4. This one is black HA2.
The Huntlight FT-01XSE XR-E is Gray, HA3.
Hunlight didn't change the inscription.
They used a FT-01 body and changed the driver circuit, led, reflector.
Mine say's: Hunlight FT-01PJ 3W LED H26xxxxx
I bought it at jsburlysflashlights.com.
The only other dealer is lighthound.com
You should have 5 different brightness modes plus SOS & Strobe.

The dark ring is from a Cree LED.
You can look around on this site for pictures of a Cree LED
and compare it to yours.

I ordered it from J.S. Burly's. Since I've been home, I've played with it a bit more, and it does indeed have a cree LED. I was a bit disappointed with the thin wooden box it came in, one of the sides had come apart during shipping.

I really like the 5 levels, and though I've seen the ring in my L1D CE, this one seems wider. I can live with it, and it is a bright light. I really like design of this light.

If enough of us do this, maybe they will offer a textured replacement
reflector in the near future.

I bought a Cree XR-E Drop-in Module with a
textured reflector for my Huntlight FT01PJ XR-E Cree P4 on a group buy.

Excellent suggestion---with a textured reflector, this could be a terrific flood light that still has decent throw. Just sent my e-mail to H/L.

Does the textured Lumapower M1 reflector work in the Cree Huntlight? If so, they are selling the reflectors seperately.

If the stock reflector in this light can be swapped with a textured model, I'm all for it.

BTW, this light has a pretty good throw for a LED. It's growing on me the more I use it

The Lumapower M1 reflector looks completely different
than the Huntlight FT-01XSE reflector. I have the Huntlight reflector
in my hand now comparing it to the pictures on the
Lumapower M1 thread.
Plus the Huntlight reflector is threaded into the driver circuit
and the Lumapower M1 is not.
I would think there is a textured reflector out there somewhere
to fit the Huntlight. As a matter of fact, I posted a thread
looking for a drop in replacement reflector for the Hunlight.
No responses at all so far.

I received a nice e-mail from Alice at Huntlight just now with some good news: they are now producing a textured reflector for the FT01 XR-E models.

I sent a follow-up to ask when and where we can order it (I'm assuming JSB's?).

My pleasure, TJZ. Alice e-mailed back that they can send the reflectors to local dealers "after 3 days". I submitted a message on JSB's website asking if/when Jon is getting some, etc. I'll post his reply.

coppertrail, This is a drop in "drop in" replacement.
There are very easy to replace. Only takes minutes.
1. Unscrew the head, lift out the reflector/driver circuit.
2. Unscrew the driver circuit from the reflector, switch reflectors.
3. Put back together, done.
