I have just received my Hyper Lux V from TNC product. Thank you Father Christmas.
Personally I find this lamp much higher than his equivalent at Streamlight, TL3 LED.
HyperLUX V, although slightly bulkier, is also much more luminous, it holds better in hand and has colors of cases much more pleasant.
The prices are about equivalent.
Which is your opinion?
Which are the notable differences in your eyes which make it possible to decide between them?

The Hyper Lux V is head and shoulders above the Streamlight IMO. Much nicer beam, output, color, as well as the fit and finish of the light. The HyperLux is a work of art /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Which color did you get? I have a blue one and a silver one on the way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Free, I agree with you, the Hyper Lux V is a work of the art /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Mine is a blue one too with a clickie tail cap switch . This color is awesome, it's my first electric blue light /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I hope a red one if chris makes it one with this color /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Here is a picture of my Precious /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Silver one is my new favorite.

I don't have a Streamlight TL-3 LED, so I can't be of much help in this regard.

But I do have a Hyper Lux V, and here it is:

As you can see, it is the blue model. And I have both the clicky tailcap and the solid tailcap with it.
Although my review isn't finished, the page is right here if you're interested. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do I have a really small thumb, or just a very strong one? I have no trouble activating the clickie with my thumb when holding the light in an overhand grip. I just use the tip of my thumb and it works great!

Other than that, I always enjoy your reviews, and look forward to your final conclusions and rating.

I agree with your first review, especially for the clicky switch remark.
I think that the number on the solid tailcap is a serial number rather than a model number /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Mine is #241.

Hello Frenchy,

I have #211 in Orange/Black splash and am thoroughly enjoying it.

I did some playing around with the reflector and found that if I raise it slightly (I rotated it so it was sitting on the leads rather than having the leads in the cut out notches - then very lightly tightened down the bezel just enough to hold things in place) I get a smaller hot spot and a smoother hot spot. My hot spot has just a hint of a shadow in it but when you raise the reflector, that shadow goes away.

The down side was that the total light output was also reduced. I have not idea why, but it went down. I put things back to normal and am using it in that configuration. I do not believe the light would be waterproof with the reflector in the raised position.

Have you done any "playing" around with yours?

Tom

I was just looking through some reviews in The LED Museum after reading the Hyper Lux V review. I then went on to read about another 5W LS light - the Space Needle II. The lux measurements taken from 1 foot for the SNII is about 3 times that of the Lux V. Is that partly because of the reflector or the quality of the LS used? (I noted that they both use the 5W LS).

the mag reflector (what's used in the sn2 and other mag mods) will provide a very tight spot with very high lux readings.

the sn2's also used pretty good emitters, so it's possible that the emitter could be better than that in the hyperlux, but not necessarily the case.

i don't have a hyperlux, so i can't compare it to mag-reflector based mods, but i've never seen a reflector that can throw like a mag reflector.

it's also probable that the hyperlux isn't being driven nearly as hard as the sn2.

Thank you very much for the information.
I changed the web page notation on this so everything's peachy now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It now reads "serial number" instead of "model number". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Tom,

No, I haven't do any "playing" around with mine. But after having read your message, I tried to make the same thing as you. And it is true that it is a means of changing the focus and the width of the beam. But I prefer the adjustment by default. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, I could check it directly on your site. But it can be necessary to ask Chris if we are right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have several Hyper Lux V's and love them. The quality of this light; over all feel, constuction, percived light output and finish are hard to beat. Pete

Same here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Added the Hyper Lux V into my wish list /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got an email today from somebody who bought a Hyper Lux V after seeing it on my website, and the review isn't even finished yet!

I love my Hyper Lux V, and expect it to earn pretty high marks when I finally do assign a rating to it.

Damn, this stuff is addicting. I will have to look into the Hyper Lux V.

Can't blame you for that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Your reviews were always informative and my favourite part would be the Punishment Zone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just when I was ready to pull out my credit card, I got to the TNC Custom web site and it's "Closed for Maintenance"..... who ever heard of closing a web page for maintenance?
