I just got my first LED flashlight (Fenix P1D-CE Q5) and it came with an O-ring in a plastic bag. The flashlight itself did not come with an O-ring on it.

Was the flashlight supposed to have an O-ring on it and the one if the bag is supposed to be a spare?

Or, is it normal for the flashlight to not have an O-ring, and the O-ring is some kind of feature that only some people want?

Do I need to have this O-ring on? I keep reading about people using some lube on their O-rings...

Your Fenix should have an o-ring below the threads on the body tube. If it does not, install the spare lubed lightly with silicone lube.

Duh! I just unscrewed the body and low and behold, there is an O-ring that's flush with the threads!

For some reason, I thought the O-ring was supposed to be a visible interface between the two bodies when assembled.

I feel like such a newb, but regarding the type III anodization, will the Fenix PD1 scratch up at all if I attach a keychain with about 12 keys attached to it? Will the lens scratch too?

Thanks for everybody's help! I can't wait for the dang batteries to arrive :)

Glass window / lens should be okay unless you really go at it, but the anodising will probably get scratched up after awhile.

I don't own one, but I've never seen anodising last on a keychain...

Yep, if you use it, it will get scratched. If you put it on a key chain it WILL get scratched. Who cares as long as the light works? :welcome:

ARC-AAAs have a reputation for not getting scratched on keychain duty...thats about it really
