OK, I am an almost-total newbie here and have become so addicted it is ridiculous. I can't tell you how many projects I have been thinking about...

But on to the topic. I just realized how great it is to pre-order a new light. I placed an order for a Rexlight some time ago, and to be honest I don't care how long it takes to get here. Just the thought of knowing I have a new light on the way that may show up on my doorstep anytime is a good feeling

It may also prevent me from buying more lights until it comes!

That's a good attitude to have. Some panic when the light is delayed.

I've been involved in many pre-orders and always have received my lights. Some are a few days late, weeks late or months late.

Just relax, your light will come!

Pre-orders are fun. It's a surprise waiting to happen. I'm not too worried about the Rexlight. It'll get here when it gets here. It's not like I don't already other lights to use.

I pre-ordered a light on 7-16-04 and STILL have not received it!! No more pre-orders for me!!!

It does seem to cool the "wanting something new" fires to have one (or two) on order. Although I'm always open to dollar store or BigLots additions.

Holy crap! That really stinks. I would be asking for my money back if I were you. When I pre order a light I expect it to be delivered in less than 2 months. Any longer than that and you are paying for the lights to be made and who knows if you will ever receive anything. Also in over 2.5 years time technology progresses so much that you will end up paying for a old product that no longer deserves the high price tag that it once did.

The longest I waited was 6 months for a light.

You guys need patience. Thank goodness you guys aren't into premium 1911's. It can take 1+ year(s) for a nice custom build. Unlike many people I only spent $30 for the Rexlight. It sucks for those who get carried away and order a bunch of them and get mad when it doesn't get delivered. Just breathe.. It'll get here.

I pre-ordered the V3 Gatlight and thought it would prevent me from buying more. A Molle, Milkyspit, Titanium Pineapple later and I'm just getting started.

With all that has transpired, a select few have given pre-orders a bad name. It is almost refreshing to see someone exited about a pre-order!

I personally won't be involved in any more pre-orders where you have to pre-pay for what is otherwise vaporware. Unfortunately, some of these lights are such a limited run or in such high demand that by the time you see them shipping and wait for someone to post a review, they are gone. And then there are the ones that are all sold long before they are ever made...

If you would like to buy my Titanium Firefly III spot from me, I have already waited the first 9 months, and would be glad to let someone else enjoy the rest. PM if interested!

Maybe after my Rexlight shows up :grin2:

I am much more careful these days about preordering an expensive flashlight. I have a Nano on order now. That taught me a hard lesson...:barf:

I pre-ordered a Gatlight V3 a month or so ago. I have already spent the money and don't miss it any more. So, in a couple of months when the V3 arrives it will seem like it was a free gift. A VERY COOL free gift !!!

I've pre-ordered lights a number of times from Elektro Lumens and would feel comfortable doing so again. Actually most of my purchases from Wayne have been pre-orders. In following pre-order threads it becomes apparent that quite a few who participate perhaps should not. Some get hopping mad at any delay at all.

It can be a good way to save some money if you have the right temperment and try to only deal with people you trust and who have a high post count.

Hmmm, looks like I will have to retract my previous statement. Sub_Umbra's comment reminded me that I have pre-ordered a few lights from Elektrolumens over the past few months...but I didn't really consider it pre-ordering until Sub put it in context. With the level of trust Wayne has established, I didn't even give it a second thought. Wayne's ability to create often outstrips his ability to produce, but he aways makes good, and recently has been making REAL good.

So I guess it is really two things that make a pre-order work - the right frame of mind (greatness takes time) and a level of trust in the manufacturer/modder. OP certainly has the former, and due diligence in researching the seller provides the latter.

Honestly, when I read the title of this thread, I was sure the OP was being facetious. When I read TECENG's post, I thought to myself, "with all that has gone wrong lately with pre-pays, is he serious?"...but after thinking about it for a moment, it really is the attitude that counts.

Yeah, but when you receive that .45, it's not half the power of the new factory ones coming out (CREE vs Luxeon). And it is a custom, not a factory product. As a fellow owner of custom 1911s, I'm not sure your analogy holds with the fast-moving technology behind our current glut of LED lights.
