Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I recently had a scare with one of my expensive lights. I have since taped a note to one of the batteries in each. The note reads "Reward if returned" and my phone number below it.

You never know, it might help.

Great news! I've lost two lights and each time it's just been depressing, and they most certainly weren't Ti Ras...

Because of my terrible habit of putting things down in ridiculous places I lost both a Tri-V and Ti Clicky light last week. Took me a day to find the Tri-V up on a shelf and a couple days passed before I found the Clicky leaning up against a post next to the koi pond where I had set it while feeding the fish.

So glad to hear you've got it back and hope you never have to endure that again!

I would have thrown up.

glad you got it back :candle:

now sell it.:poke:

seems foolish to me to edc a light valued at $500+ when i can have a light that does exactly the same thing (lots of great 123 lights available) for $70.

(or less if i buy used)

especially when either can be lost.

Ra's are NOT supposed to be shelf queens! They are the ultimate EDC. A light you can count on. Ti makes it even more bombproof, even in saltwater environments.

To be honest, I don't know how owners could stand to NOT have it at their sides at all times. My Prrrecioussss! :D

Good to know its back. I kept a business card inside my Maglite 3D in the last 15 years. Thought about doing the same thing with my Surefires, but actually came up with something different.

The dealer I get my flashlights from offers free laser engraving on any purchase. So I got them the add "Return to: PERSONAL ADRESS ETC" on the head. Now if I loose something, all I need is a honest person to return it.

Cheers
Thorsten

Well, not exactly the same thing (unless you're limiting the feature set to projecting light out of one end). There's a reason HDS lights fetch a high price.

There are any number of high priced items I have on my person at any one time like an MP3 player, cell phone, portable video game system, digital camera, Swiss Army watch, and so on. I'm careful to keep track of them, but if any of them gets lost it's not the end of the world, so I don't let myself become paranoid about losing them.

You might want to post this valuable information in the Spy threads, all the McGizmo threads, and catch the Draco's while you're at it.

Why stop at $70 when there's lights at Home Depot that'll do exactly the same thing for $10.

Wakeup call: there are no other lights that do what a Ra does other than another Ra. You've been here long enough to know that lights don't just make light. They're also the combination of their UI, body, driver and emitter/reflector combination.

i have been here long enough, and owned enough lights to know,

a $40 light will get the job done just as well as a $500 light ;)

That depends entirely on the job and what you expect out of the light.

To put it another way, a $500 light can do everything a $40 light can, but a $40 light can't do everything a $500 light can.

Even if he doesn't continue to edc the light, why would he need to sell it just when he got it back? Seems like a good time to have a second honeymoon kind of thing.

I have to say, though, I do like the idea of putting a slip of paper with contact information in the battery compartment in order to increase the chances that a lost light might make it back to its owner.

Excellent news Matt7337. Just a momentary lapse of "WHERE DID I PUT MY HDS 170T CLICKY" causes my heart rate to go up leaps and bounds.

Hear, hear! Take that light for a walk in the woods, down flashlight lovers lane and to dinner at a dimly lit restaurant!

First of all, if you offered me $500 cash for it, I'd laugh and ask you where the rest was. It was bought for £600 GBP and there are only 100 of them in the world mate. Double your figure, then we'll talk ;)

Secondly, I have zero intention of selling it. Like someone else said, there's not another flashlight I know of that can do what the Clicky does as well as it does, or that does everything it does. I own about 20 high performance LED flashlights now and I can easily say that the Ra is the best of them. I'd have to agree with DM51 that you're trolling a bit here with your comments. Everyone who know anything about high performance lights knows that there are environments, situations and requirements where no $40 light will do the same job as a (as you've grossly undervalued it) $500 light. I guarantee that if I subjected one of these so called $40 lights to the same sort of use as some of my lights get on a weekly basis, they'd be highly unreliable. I know for a fact that my Clicky is more than up to the task of dealing with rough handling and use. That doesn't mean I don't look after it as best I can, but if I wanted to place a bet on one light for reliability, the Ti Clicky would be it.

Good luck ever finding one. Making them in Ti makes their finish all but indestructible. Most of us already know how tough HDS lights are, making them in Ti was more a favor from Henry to his fans. I know I'd be in for one if ever he chose to do it again!

especially when either can be lost.

To those who understand, no explanation is necessary. To those who don't (at least in this case), none is possible. So many flashaholics keep their Ti lights as shelf queens. While I myself own NO shelf queens, if I know my light might get knocked around that day (and I'm not already carrying my standard Ti EDC), my Hard-anodized Al lights are staying home. I don't want the anodizing flaking off.
