This light was gifted by Greta :) Thank you, again!

A Bit of Background:
The Icon lights are designed by Paul Kim (PK), vp of engineering @ surefire.. they were first mentioned over here 1/19/09 at this thread. and then launched on 1/28/09 in BatteryJunction's thread here.

time to take a peek at this interesting light:

Here in this exhibit, is the "potato peeler". this light eats veggies and taters for lunch.

on this other exhibit, we now know who to blame/credit for this creature ;) Mr. Kim has had his signature lasered onto the heads.

Comparison:

The Icon Rogue may be the shortest light in the group, but it is still rather large compared to other 1xAA lights out on the market.

Indoor Shots:
(because of the sheer volume of lights in one shot, I have them in the large 800 px wide size)

LOL... shh.. the batteries are hiding in the corner,of course. ;)

Impressions:
not everyone really needs an uber 200+ lumen light. right?? right?? * crickets chirp *
:sick2: well.. the people that don't need that much output are of a smaller number at this forum ;) though, I'll have to agree with that following
considering that, this is a nice light for around the house.. not for EDC. It's a large light for its size, but that is the point of the design! Easy to grip, easy to use, this light is just fine for most ordinary purposes.
The low mode is decent, but uses a noticeable PWM.. not as bad as many of the DX lights I've used, of course.
If not, bring out the 3xMC-E lights.. you know you want to.

nope - the Rogue 1 and Rogue 2 can be purchased in either black, green or 'Titanium Gray'.

I have a few pk-etched Rogues but none in Black. The photos above are the first 'in the wild' photos I believe I've seen of the Black finish.

Nice review!

.

Can you remove the reflector from the head, or is glued in there? I would really love to know if you can remove the plastic window on these lights, and replace it with glass...

in this picture, you can see 2 little holes on the sides.. I suspect then you'd be able to rotate it, and get the guts out, but it seems to be loctited in.. I'm not going to try too much force on my special PK edition ;)

I've put a lot of force on mine, there seems to be a lot of loctite on it.

I think you would need to be lucky or use heat to get it open.

i might be wreaking everyone else's day here.
But don't anyone think a Fenix LD10 or Nitecore D10 would just be better than the icon rogue1 ANYDAY??

If you want something bigger, u can always get 1 x 18650 lights, which its bigger AND better, and not better and no better like the icon rogue... if you guys get what i mean.

The ICON brand is introducing better quality flashlights to the consumer market. Existing lights such as the ones you mention are expensive and not designed for the general public.

Of course for Flashaholics we have far greater exposure to a far wider range of flashlights - many of them developed specifically developed for us.

ICON lights are styled by design - attractive to consumers

Whoops, flashaholic mindset... Back off a bit.
The icon series of light was not designed to be thr smallest or the brightest.. It was designed with the average consumer in mind, the average consumer would want an easy to use simple on off light.. Not something with a piston drive, etc. AND.. It'll have to be easy to find because the lights are normally tossed uncaringly * bonk * into the toolbox. I think the rouge 1 would stand out we'll among the tools compared to the fenix .
Also, for some of the population.. They may find it harder to grip the tiny lights... A large protruding button of the rouge solves this problem.

Now, battery type.. Who in their right mind would use such a complicated and potentially hazardous battery for a light they might use once a month? ;)

what's an EDC?
