Interesting(ish) odd experience with C9000 R&A mode

Hi everyone,

I decide that it was about time I R&A my 5-year-olds AA rechargeables (that he bought with his own pocket money, because he wanted to always have batteries for all his toys, bless him) just to see how they are performing. He has 8 FameArt 2300s and 8 Maplin-own-brand 2000s.

Did all the FameArts first event-free. Then the first set of Maplins, also event-free. However, an odd thing happened with the last set of 4 Maplins that I've never seen happen before on my C9000.

After the R&A had finished, bays 3 & 4 were fine, but bays 1 & 2 displayed a capacity of 127 and 135 respectively. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I kept cycling through the slots just to confirm it.

So, I decided to just do a simple 500ma discharge on these two cells, but using bays 3 & 4 to discover the discharge reporting capacities of 1473 and 1600 respectively. Finally I did another R&A on them, back in bays 1 & 2. This time I got reported capacities of 1499 and 1607.

Don't know what went wrong on the first R&A - but it all ended up fine.

Cheers,

Nearly 100 "looks" and none of us batter guys ha had a similar "out-of-body" experience?

Yay - a first for me and a first for CPF :) :) :)

All the best

I've seen something similar with my new C9000 and some Duracell 2650 mAh I'm trying to save. Their internal resistance is that high that even the discharge mode won't work, even at 100 mA. The 1A pulse is enough to bring the voltage under 0.9V and the C9000 reports "Done" at the beginning of the process.

It wasn't an R&A cycle, but I recharged some old (going on 6 years maybe) GrandCell 2100mAh cells from empty at 1000ma and they came to a capacity of around 500-600mAh. I knew these things were old and thought that these could do better, so after a discharge cycle at 500ma, I charged it at a much lower rate of 200ma. At the end of the charging cycle, I got around 1400-1500mAh out of them.
