Is there a way to powercoat the black aluminum G2L head to match the black nitrolon body? Is there a place that will do this kind of a job for a resonable price? I would like to also powercoat my z59 clicky tailcap that is part nitrolon and rubber.

FYI: SF has powercoated the yellow aluminum G2L head to match the yellow nitrolon body. I think SF will also do this for the OD and Tan G2L coming out later.

You should have local paint shop that does these sort of things. If you really want you can even buy the gun and plastic powder and do it in your own oven.

I SUSPECT that their may be another "in - line" change to the G2 that will change the glossy black head to a more flat finish....

Due to powder coating needing about a 300F or higher cure in the oven, you have to remove all the plastic and rubber components before starting.

I think you'll have to remove the black anodize first. Powder coating has very good adhesive characteristics to bare metal thats been prep'd properly. I have never heard about anyone trying it over an anodize.

KDOG3, I hope there will be a change but when? The yellow aluminum heads have the powercoated finish and the OD and tan aluminum heads will be powercoated.

Any professional powder coat shop should be able to do this. You'll have to pay their minimum, probably no more than $25 to $50, whether it's 1 or 100.

The problem is removing all the non metal parts from the head and z49 tailcap before sending off to powercoat. Is it possible to gut out the parts without destroying the head and z49 tailcap?

Are there any good spray paints that will match the black nitrolon?

There is a guy on CPF who has powder coated Maglites to order. Apparently he doesn't remove the anodizing , simply roughs it up using some sort of scouring pad and then sprays the color required before baking it.

Maybe if you do a search he might be able to help you or give you some advice?

dougie, thanks for the info but the problem is removing all the non metal parts from the head and z49 tailcap before sending off to powercoat.

Is there a good flat brand of black spray paint that matches the black nitrolon color?

Try Krylon Ultra Flat black. It might match, but try it on something else first, don't want you to ruin your light :)

If any one has spray painted their black aluminum G2 head with flat black spray paint, please post your comments. Thanks.
