Is this just a smoke generator or will it work?

You can see by the pics what I am trying to achieve. What I am wondering though does this charger have delta V cut-off or is it a simple timer? or both? The battery is a 17670 rated at 1500Mah.

I've heard reports it that some overcharge. IIRC mine overcharged a bit on a 3.6 volt so now I watch it to catch it when it first turns green or even check the voltage before it gets to green. I try to get them off around 4.15 v to 4.2 v. Nice setup.

Hello SunnyQueensland,

I would suggest that you take a few moments to study up on charging Li-Ion cells. -dV and timers are not used when charging this chemistry.

The search engine (if working) is your friend...

I did something similar a few months ago, although in a much less elegant way.

It is definitely not a smoke generator, and it will work, but it's meant for small cells. It will eventually charge larger ones such as 18650s, but it'll take the best part of a day to do so, and it will overheat if you don't add forced air cooling.

Still, if all you've gotta charge are 14500s it'll do it just fine.

A word of warning: monitor the charge carefully, and the moment it signals it's complete disconnect the cell. Tiny chargers tend to overcharge slightly if the cell stays connected more than it should.

I used my hacked charger for a while, then I decided it wasn't enough for my growing collection of cells of all kinds and got a Hyperion 5i RC-grade charger.

Edit: where did you get that square connector, and how much did you pay for it? I'm looking for stuff like that around here but I can't find any at non-ridiculous prices...

Fallingwater: We have a store here in Australia called Jaycar. Much like Radioshack I suppose. A good combination of hardware/components and gadgets. I think you should find all the parts you need in old computer that has been retired. I used these so I can't get the polarity wrong. I like that charger, what did you pay for it?

Thanks Silverfox, I must have had a brain fart, :ohgeez:I was obviously thinking of NI-MH cells.

Can anyone suggest a suitable charger from DX etc...
