I have a recently acquired Q3-5A Raptor 2 that has malfunctioned and is going back. I like the light a lot and am happy it is able to utilize the higher capacity flat top 18650 cells. Am however tempted to step up to the lager reflector neutral tint Raptor 1. I only intend to use carry and use when know mucho illumination will be needed.

A) will it use flat tops as well?

B) Anyone have hands on experience with both and can convey a comparison? I assume the 1 has more throw, but how much?

C) Is there any new 18650 Jet's coming to market in near future aware of?

I have both the RRT-1 and RRT-2. I don't know if the RRT-1 will use Flat tops since I don't have any (yet). I can tell you that the RRT-1 has a lot more throw. The hotspot in the center of the RRT-1 is much more intense and the extra throw is very noticeable outdoors. I can light up objects in the distance with the RRT-1 that the RRT-2 does not even reach. I use two cr123a in each light so I'm not sure if they would be any different with an 18650. The RRT-1 is a little heavier to carry around but not too much more then the RRT-2 (which is a heavy beast for its size). As I'm sure you know the UI is the same between the two (and I really like it). Everything about the lights is the same with the exception of the head. I can easily light something up 100 years away with both. The RRT-2 can do 200 yards but it is starting to fade at that distance. The RRT-1 will easily light up 200 and 300 yards away and even 400 yards (where it starts to fade a bit) - I checked distances on a map. Jetbeam's web site says the RRT-1 will go 500 yards - not mine - that is a bit of a stretch. I get about 200 yards for the RRT-2 and 400 yards for the RRT-1. Lumens seem to be the exact same between the two when doing a ceiling bounce test. Here is a picture of some of my lights with the RRT-2 and RRT-1 on the far right.

In that case I must have one now! Sorry could not resist...
Thanks for the reply. Going to see if my dealer can get me a Q3-5A RRT-1.

Those are some awesome pics - Shows the throw in a totally different way from the typical pics we see posted. I like that.

Nice beam shots. I will have to take a few of those (mostly trees and grass where I live).
