I have a couple of these for a recently purchased Glo-Toob FX. My question is this: I know there's very little capacity in these tiny cells, but they are rated at 12V! Why can't Duracell or someone use the same alkaline technology and make a 12V D-sized cell that would be worth so much? I realize this may be a silly question to those who are in the know, but just wondering...

If you took apart one of these batteries, you would find 8 small 1.5 volt button cells inside, wired in series to provide 12 volts. I forgot what size these button cells are, but LR41 comes to mind here.

Ah, ala 9V batteries. No magic then, just packaging hocus pocus!

Did you actually take one of these apart not knowing what was inside? That's fairly brave, I would think, chopping into a potentially acid filled shell!

By chance I took one apart last night /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Confirmed that it's made of many button cells. They do look like LR41's, same dia. as LR 44 but thinner. Might be a cheap source of these for people wanting to overdrive torches which use LR44's. I did it with a LED Lenser copy I had lying around, and it is quite a bit brighter.

To paraphrase that guy from Bladerunner: to burn twice as bright for half as long....when I think of some of the 5Watt mods this quote seems quite apt: "And you have burned so very, very, bright, my friend"

Hope that made sense to someone... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
