Hi there!

Does anyone know the Kershaw Tactical Tanto Blur ? What kind of steel is the blade ? Is it the same steel since it´s first release ?

And what about the Kershaw Cyclone ? Do you guys have it ? Is it the same steel since ever ?

I´m searching a good e-store to buy them... can you point one ? Specially with good prices... hehe

Thanks in advance!

All the standard Kershaw knives use Sandvik 13C26 steel nowadays. It's supposed to be about as well as you could do for the price. Kershaw used to use 440A for the Blur, and the Sandvik is a great improvement upon that.

I owned a mini-Cyclone, and a Cyclone, and I still own the Blur. The Cyclones are great-looking knives, but they are very slippery. This is less of an issue with the mini-Cyclone which you can securely grip... but the full-size Cyclone is simply too large and agressive to get away with anodized aluminum as the handle coating. Every time the very aggressive assisted opening engaged, I thought I'd drop the knife and cut myself. So I sent the Cyclone back to the store, and gave the mini away as a gift.

The Blur is a different kind of knife altogether. It has a very comfortable grip, and the Trac Tec inserts feel very secure (if not too abrasive). Basically it feels like the handle is covered in asphalt. There is no way it's ever leaving your hand though. Which is good, since the assisted opening on the Blur is the best of any other Kershaw I've had - crisp, fast, and loud. Please don't open it in front of the sheepie... they get very scared.

I have used the blur hiking the whole of last year up until earlier this summer, when I got the Benchmade mini-Rukus.

I buy most of my knives from knifecenter.com nowadays. They seem to have very fair prices and a decent turnaround time.

P.S. I'd advise to save up an extra $20, and purchase the Blur with the S30V steel blade (also available). It's probably a far better investment in the long run.

Knife Supply has great prices on Kershaw knives and they ship to anywhere for very reasonable money.

The best folder Kershaw has is the Tyrade, but if you want the best bang for the buck, go with the Junkyard Dog - II with the composite blade technology (CPM-D2 and Sandvick).
