yep I think he'll repair it now that we're armed with all that useful info.

As a mod host it would hold a Luxeon LED but I don't know anything about electronics and couldn't wire it up. It would also hold one of those surefire reflectorised assemblies only just I think.
Better still - I could mount a bi pin adapter in there and see if I can locate a suitable reflector to run a strion bulb or similar - it is a cool looking host.

IMO, It's unlikely that you've burnt out ALL the LEDs in your flashlight by
applying overvoltage. This is probably a "direct drive" flashlight with all
the LEDs connected in parallel, right? In that case what probaby happened
is that a small number of LEDs failed in a way that is essentially a short
circuit, and is preventing sufficient voltage from reaching the other LEDs.
You MIGHT be able to fix it just by removing the bad LEDs (even without
replacing them.) Now, figuring out which one(s) is bad may be a bit tricky.
Examining the "business end" carefully while things are powered might give
you a clue - are any of the LEDs completely dark? Otherwise, depending on
how the PCB is laid out, you might be able to partition the LEDs in a binary
sort of search (divide in half, if only one half is dark, divide that in half again,
and so on till the "dark" half contains only a single LED. Then you can put
bridge-wires back on to repair the PCB...

I didn't know LED's could short circuit.

Every bad LED that I had went open circuit. (that I know of)
