Can a Surefire KL1 run on 9 volts or only on 3 or 6 volts?

If you can run it on 9 volts what's the Lums and run time?

Thanks,

Short answer: KL1 has buck/boost circuit so 1 through 3 123 cells is fine.

Long answer: buried in a multitude of threads within the archives.

i have a KL1 on a UBH with three cr123s, and it works dandy. it's a *tad* brighter than just two, and two/three is brighter than one. in fact, one barely seems to produce a clean white light (tough blueish), two/three is fairly white with a teeny hint of blue. me likey. it also works dandy with other battery combos, but 9V is the max with this setup.

course, now that've seen pictures of the mclux tail/powerpack with a KL1 head i kinda like that too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
dammit! i want one.

i also want a firefly, and an L4 and ... it's pretty much want too.

the L1 is by far my favoritess daily carry. the X5 and X5t work great too for daily. of course, i'm never without several others about my backpack/person "just in case", but they are JIC, and used less (arc aaa/cmg aa/badboys)...

sigh. so many new lights. not enough lights on my shelf /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

pahl,

Regulated runtime at 9v (Fresh Surefire batteries) is six hours or more. This figure has been confirmed by several runtests including Roy's and, if memory serves, Jeff's (Ted Bear), along with my own noninstrumented runtests.

I have never seen any tests where KL1 on 3x123 got less than six hours fully regulated.

As much as I dislike the ponderously heavy KL3 I have to give it its due. It is a little brighter than the KL1, with an impressively broad beam that runs regulated for about seven hours on the same 3x123.

Bearing in mind that the KL1 on 2x123 gets about 4.25hrs regulated the primary advantage of 3x123 (In a UBH I assume) is fewer battery changes over a long period and very slightly brighter light.

UBH x 6 batteries = 12hrs regulated - one battery change
E2E x 6 batteries = 12hrs/45min reg - two battery changes

Even though the KL3 produces more light for a longer burn I have relegated it to permanent back-of-drawer duty.
