From what I recall in a comment PK made regarding water resistance on SFDB, I believe the KL1's can take any amount of rain or shallow dunking you might throw at them. Obviously subjecting them to pressure could be a different story as well as the fact that the O-rings on the host as well as the bore seal surfaces need to be up to the task.

An interesting aside on the color issue:

I have designed a simple Al reflector that will drop in as a replacement for standard optics. This part I hope to be able to offer to CPFers in the next month or so. Interestingly, the color you get in the corona from the optics is the color you get in the center beam with this reflector. The color present in the center beam with the optics is distributed in the corona with the reflector. The reflector provides a even fill, wide angle beam which I have found is ideal for inclose illumination as well as reading and tasks. I am refering to the bat wing LED's here. I don't have any HD's to try other than colored 5W's which also have a good result with the reflector.
