I have had my KL4 on the Marketplace for quite some time now and no one has wanted it. I am considering drilling out the reflector and doing three Seoul P4 emitters driven by a Shark converter and with no reflector.
Since the KL4 is pretty much a flood light anyway, I figure three emitters should raise the bar a bit.

Anyone do anything like this? Any suggestions or input would be nice.

I'm sure heat will be an issue, but I will only be using it for short periods of time. I will make the Aluminum heatsink about 3/8" - 1/2" thick to help with thermal issues.

This would be the ultimate flood light!
I could fit it in a standard E-Series head but the KL4 would look so bad *** with three emitters!!!

I hear people saying they REALLY LIKE the flood beam of the Mules. I would think this should be somewhat comparable.

Has anyone made a light using a Seoul with no reflector?
If so, what did you think....

I understand the beam angles between the Seouls and Crees are different, but a multi-emitter setup should give great coverage.

I've seen a light use 3 Seouls and tiny reflectors. There was a thread and I think it was made by Milkeyspit.

Well, I decided the time had come for the mod to be completed.......

I've never used a light with no reflector before and the flood is truelly amazing! It will, however, take some getting used to. I'm not at all used to a light with ALL FLOOD and No Throw at all.

I made the heatsink out of aluminum and lathed it down to a cone shape to fit the shape of the KL4 reflector. I opted against drilling out the reflector due to not being 100% positive that I would like this mod. The skark converter fits nicely inside the head and the potentiameter is still accessable if the head is removed for adjustments. This thing does get warm fast....but it will only be used for brief periods of time anyway.

OK.......on to the pics......

Thank you for the compliments....
I will get beamshots up in the next couple of days. It is really weird how it just lights up the whole damn room! I can see this coming in real handy when working on my cars and motorcycles.

oh, thats not that far from the Lux V then. very nice. will be waiting for beam shots. :naughty:

P.S. for most everyday uses, I prefer flood over throw.

Re: KL4 + Three SSC P4's = Flood Monster!BEAMSHOTS!

skalomax.....that is one BAD-*** Light!!!! Milky has done it again!!!
I GOTTA see some beamshots..........errrr............ummm..........floodshots of that Monster!!!

I could not screw thw bezel down completely before the domes of the emitters being smooshed by the lense. I ended up swapping the domed lens from my KL1 with the KL4's flat lense and vice-versa.......ANYWAY the bezel now screws down completley and now looks perfect. Thank god for the domed lense, otherwise it just didn't feel completed.

Every time I use this light I like it more...

I finally got around to taking some INSIDE pics for comparisons.
I was about to do the outside shots when my sister came up and said both her dogs just got sprayed in the backyard.
I will still try to go take and get the OUTSIDE shots up tonight.
